Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Complainers and whiners.

BK and Murthy are actually being incredibly generous with VSP and ISP. They may not be that generous in the future.

Intel can fire you at anytime with no buyout whatsoever. Corporations make the rules now so deal with it. Take the money and run!

I believe that BK and Murthy "may not be that generous in the future".

I don't believe "Intel can fire you at anytime". It is true Intel makes the rules, but it must make the rules clear and fair for people to follow. It can not change the rules in the middle of game.

It would be too naive not to understand the layoff is reality; it would be too stupid not to see Intel retrofitted its SSL scheme for the purpose of selecting people for layoff.

Yes, I believe Intel can lay off employees more easily (i.e. less complaint and smaller severance package) in the future, but not until it fixes its performance review and rating system. People want no deception or illusion about their performance.

Well said, mhz. They could have kept their "world-class package" and instead give us the "respect and dignity" they kept promising. I still could have left without the package and have all the respect I once had for the company for treating me and my colleagues with human dignity right until our last day. Even every single colleague, not affected by the layoffs, that I have talked to has said their view of Intel has changed forever. Look at the social media. Nobody is talking about the buyout Intel offered, but how the affected employees were treated is everywhere. The damage done to the company will someday be realized. Rest in peace Bob and Andy. Intel will NEVER be the same respected company it was once before. I am not saying that because I lost my job. Look at Nike's accusation of their "sweatshops" still hunting them years later. Intel will be viewed similarly for treating their employees like criminals long after this wave is gone. As they did with Nike (and others), people will think twice if they should buy "Intel inside".

Great post (below).

Easier said than done but everyone who was ISP'd - including me - needs to take your severance and find another job.

Were the ISP criteria unfair and stupid (on any number of levels) for Intel? Absolutely. Was the process of being walked out of the office in front of peers and people that I hired demeaning and humiliating? Very much so. Is there anything, realistically, that you can do about it? Nope

Time to move on folks. If you're angry with Intel, channel that energy into beating them. That's the best payback...

BK and MR are simple ahos. Nothing more .... Nothing less. BK went out and snatched up his hitman for anking's ransom. Everybody notice that no well respected business person is coming anywhere near the mess they created?

In all fairness, if you look at what Intel HAS to offer you at the end of your at-will employment, yes, it IS "generous." No, not as generous as allowing you to keep your job ad infinitum, but...

That being said, they possibly COULD find a slightly more gracious way to ISP people. After all, these folks have been perfectly civilized employees for years - and likely extremely hard-working employees, as that's the Intel culture.

But, even there, there are legal and material considerations. The ISP process is precisely scripted and staged for legal reasons. (And many of the postings on this website illustrate WHY it has to be that way. So that's not all on Intel - that's also due to the litigious and emotional nature of American humanity.)

This is a traumatic process and, of course, depending on one's situation, it can feel threatening to one's survival. And the cherry on top of that brutal sundae is a feeling that it was "unfair," for a variety of potentially valid reasons.

And yet it's you who are suffering for it, with no power to do anything about it - except take the generous separation package and go on with your life, free from the company that did these things that are making you so angry. Plenty of people have said that, having previously had this happen to them, they're now happier and their quality of life is better. That and the money are a certain consolation in this, admittedly, painful and difficult and infuriating time.

Nice try HR! "Generous!" The propaganda of Intel is truly staggering. What was generous was the 60-80 hr work weeks that employees put in because they believed in Intel. What was not generous was the treating those same employees as common criminals as they were fired. Lack of basic human decency negates any amount of dollars you throw at people as you kick them out!

The only thing they are generous with is their own salary.

They needed to make attractive enough so those desperate for a paycheck will sign their rights away.

Generous my ass Its all business. They need to keep a reputation as a good employer or they won't be able to attract talent. Even with the severance this layoff has damaged that reputation.
