Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Difficulty landing new job

Looking for job in TX, CA in HW design/ validation. Finding the job market extremely slow. Are most of the online postings fake? Hardly getting any response. Any advice?

Be flexible. Take a job temporarily anywhere in the US just to wipe the INTEL off the top of your resume.

All the hardware jobs have moved to Asia while you were sleeping.

I was impacted though the layoffs from July '15. Took me 8 months, 600+ applications, and so so so many rejections. Altogether, only 8 interviews, with three follow-up interviews to get the perfect job opportunity and fantastic offer.

Yes, I was also a hardware design/validation engineer. Lots of software engineering jobs, not as many hardware jobs. Just keep on looking. And take my advice, take some time for yourself and your family. I spent all my time applying for jobs and, looking back, I regret it.

Good luck!

It took me 2.5 months to find another job (guess where...) and that was while I still worked for the former employer. Connections may help but are not mandatory. And I agree with you, I've notice a slowdown lately, not that many reqs in this industry as used to be just few months ago.

It's a numbers game dude. It's like sitting at a slot machine. The Stars have to align just perfectly. Keep applying and you'll eventually hit. Remember, you only need one job.

It takes time. Things have to incubate and bake. Keep putting stuff out there and be patient it whatever you do don't stop submitting applications and keep working in your personal branding/public profile stuff.

Sound advice from @dvn. I sent over 200 resume and only one called me. One phone call to my old contact and it landed me a job without sending a resume or going in for interview. All we had to do was to agree on my package. Good luck.

Network network network. Reach out to old friends, former intel employees, customers. You won't find jobs by listings typically. Hundreds of applicants. But people are very generous with their time usually. Most won't care about why you were let go, but have a story you tell confidently. Use the resume service to help you, and look at Jobscan.com -- helps you tailor your resume to a specific job listing.
