Thread regarding Education Management Corporation layoffs

Is anyone surprised?

As an ex- AIO employee who left of my own accord some time ago, I do feel sorry in some ways for my friends and former coworkers that lost their jobs today. But, I've heard some of them say that they were shocked or surprised that this happened "out of nowhere". I can't understand that. Any person with a brain could see the ship sinking for a long time, years even.

Most of the smart people left well over a year ago because of this exact reason. So, while I do feel sorry for them, it's on them that they made the choice to go down with the ship, for better or worse. Thoughts?

I can't muster much sympathy. Not anymore.

Lmao thanking them for what service? I didn't know duping people to go to a school that has inflated prices and no real job prospects as a goof dead. You're the type of person that needs to drink bleach.

I'm not surprised but I still have empathy for the people who lost their jobs. You can know something is likely to happen but still be shocked when it does. I went through a few waves of lay offs when I worked there and they were hard on people. Several of my friends got laid off. Losing a job is a stressful experience. We should be wishing them well and thanking them for their service.

You're right. Karma is a bitch. But had you tried to get out sooner, you could have. Really tried - applying to several jobs every week, networking etc. Now you'll be competing with a couple hundred other people coming with the same bad rap at the same time. It seems to me that it would be harder now. Like I said, there is some sympathy because it's easy to ignore when you have a decent paycheck coming in.

I assume you are one of those smart people. Thanks for pointing that out. Knowing the ship is sinking and not having a lifeboat is the challenge a--hole. The money was good and its hard to find work leaving EDMC as there was a bad rep... so if you were able to get out, great for you... but to judge everyone else is a cowardly move. I hope wherever you are now they send you with your bags a packing. Karma is a bitch.

But, AIO was not run on a traditional fall/spring calendar. So I'm not sure if that would apply to this school.

Anthony said it best today when he said ya gotta understand the industry. It's unstable and unpredictable. This is layoff season and the late summer/ fall is rapid hire season. Don't like it? Don't be in the education industry
