Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel Ireland Tech VSP’s

Intel offered VSP’s in Ireland today to the technician staff. The methods they employed were peculiar. They generally open up vsp’s to allow people the option of a package. However today they offered certain techs the option of applying for the packages. This has disgruntled a lot of employees as not many of them wanted it. The criteria for selection was quite ambiguous. This seems quite a strange strategy on Intels behalf and wonder why it was chosen. If they don’t get the numbers they require for vsp’s what will they do. They have told all their new staff and those on 24 month contracts that their jobs are safe and they will be made permanent. In essence the staff picked for vsp’s can’t be the ones chosen for isp’s. Redundancy law's exists in order to ensure that employers are not merely making way for an alternative employee to do the same job. Effectively Intel are still hiring in Ireland.

If you work for Intel Ireland for less then 4 focals then you are unaffected. This is targeting of older people on grade 56/57 and replacing them with lads straight out of college. It will never be like it used to be when a successful got you an 8% pay rise.

An exercise in saving at the cost of loyal workers.

I got an offer. Not taking it. Waiting on the big push.

I am a F24 MT and fell into the criteria of 4 years 'successful' in the same grade. I was offered VSP even though my manager has asked me to turn it down. Your direct manager has no say in who is offered VSP and are purely handed a list of eligible employees by HR.

I wish I was offered that VSP. They should be upfront about criteria and who qualifies.

Got vsp offer. 5 + 2 weeks per year. Max 2 years pay. Vsp is not redundancy so anything past in basic benefit is taxed at 49%. Think I'll wait for the isp. Nearly tax free.

The criteria they are using is complete bullshit. There are people in my area that meet it and didn't get the offer. 4 years in the same grade with successful each year. 5 others in my area meet this but no offer. It's all to do with your relationship with your manager and mine isn't good.

Definitely another round of offers next month. Nothing voluntary this time.

You are lucky to have a government that has some sort of control and worker protections. The US only protects its corporations not the workers, only hope in US is Union jobs.

being given the choice of a VSP and turning it down does not mean they do not meet future critiria for an ISP, they more then likely do and if so can be included.

You have a very ruthless site mgr. Watch your back. Of course, if people don't leave by their choice, they will have no choice I the future.
