Do you think laid off folks can get unemployment benefit? Look like the date of receiving the benefit depend on your severance payment. If I read it right, it could be a year later depend on your payment. Have never been unemployed before, please give your input. Appreciate it.
In MA, unemployment recommends you apply right away. However, unemployment wants a copy of your termination letter. If the termination letter states that your were given 6 wks pay and then an additional sum for signing a waiver, it will affect when you can start receiving benefits. In this case, you have to wait 6 wks before you can start collecting, because Intel paid you for those 6 future weeks. However, the lump sum payout for signing the waiver is ignored. MA also does not pay out for the 1st week you are eligible for unemployment.
I'm in Arizona. I was ISP'd but given the ERP plan since I met retirement criteria. On my letter it said for unemployment purposes that my "position was eliminated due to a business reorganization".
At this point I am assuming I am eligible for unemployemnt. However, does anyone know how long I can wait to apply? Is it possible to start receiving the benefit in 2017? The resaon is that my income in 2017 will be much lower and the taxes would be less.
In CA, you can apply right away, then there is a one week wait before benefits start. Severance and vacation pay DO NOT affect this date. It's one week. I know, I went through it last year.
In CA, you can apply immediately, but severance and vacation pay DO IMPACT WHEN YOU WILL START RECEIVING YOUR BENEFITS. you will get them, just a delay.
In AZ you are eligible for unemployment compensation the day after your dismissal (May 31st) only if you received ISP.
In CA, severance payment does not impact unemployment benefit for those received ISP. You can immediately apply for unemployment benefit after your last day of employment (ie: no longer on payroll).
