State of Affairs, INTEL Inside?!

Here is the State of Affairs, as my girlfriend explains it.

Most of the actual jobs are done by G5s, G6ses and G7s, G8 and above are sitting on the endless meetings and endlessly talking, and talking, and talking... Not working. This continues for decades.

PE are good ONLY in Office 2013/2016, namely in Word and in Excel, analyzing bunch of (usually useless) data, making drawings, tables and PORs, and forever presenting these data to management.

Some of these HW PEs are not able to make on the paper Karnaugh diagrams, neither to understand what is term "Open Drain" (as example). Most of SW PEs are not able to understand single line of asm or "C" code (as other example).

But these PE VIPs have one most valuable skills: they are very good asskissers to high and executive management. And, yes, do not name it, there are more beneath the hood... You can just imagine!

When comes to let go, who is chopped? G5s to G7s. Actual hard working people.

Let it be. States of Affairs are not so different in other IT corporations/companies, just to kill The Hope. Hope dies last... Indeed!

In INTEL, Hope NEVER dies, does it? :-)

Sorry to tell/reply... We, R&D engineers and IT engineers, we are NOT Politicians. If anybody wants to deal with Politics in IT/High Tech companies like INTEL, they should live their technical posts/jobs and start campaigning/lobbying for House of Representatives, or for US Senate.

Am I clear here, or I need to draw/sketch pictures?

Had the same experience with PEs and Senior PEs I've worked with. All sharp, with huge contribution to Intel and the industry.

However, they tend to block anything related to their field of interest and push their own agenda instead. It is a very political role.

I have worked with many PEs and they are all top notch hard working engineers. Sorry if this wasn't your experience.

When I interviewed at Intel years ago, I was asked by a PE to use a Karnaugh map to solve some Boolean problems.

I almost laughed the interviewer out of the room.

Anyone that still uses Karnaugh maps is obviously a tool. Sounds to me like all Intel engineers and the OP ARE proud of this. Good lord you guys need a fresh dose of external reality.

There is ONLY one way how to beat these corporate cock-roaches, for us, doers, who are nobodys, small, but very knowledgeable and useful individuals: to do work for roaches on hihg paid contracts, from minimum $100.00+ USD/hour. Nothing, but that!

TSRs were around prior to 1990 and certainly not invented anywhere near Borland. All installable drivers for DOS/Windows were TSRs in those days,

Abosolutely WRONG!!! I was G8 and working like a dog, 24/7 damn it! But still they kicked me out just becoz of SSL4 thanks to my sabbatical I took last year.

I do generalize. Indeed. I do not say that all G8s and G9s are useless beanbags. But at least 50% to 60% are!

When I started this IT job, in Y1990, I remembered company called Borland.

Their VP of Engineering in Y1990 produced for DOS something called: TSR (Terminate and Stay Resident), program driven by interrupts. He was pissed off since he could not run two parallel processes at the time in DOS 6.2. Genius, and TRUE dedicated VP to the technical areas.

Every corporation (tech or not) works like this. People coming in are doers, they execute, they are tactical. As you go up in grade, you make more and more decisions, have strategic impact. The entire world works like this. Why would you expect Intel to be different? Do you expect RCGs who can barely tie their shoes out of college doing PE and fellow work?

You need to do something about your envy or it'll eat you alive. As I understand you are arguing that Intel should leave just G5 and G6 workers and lay off everyone above (up to and including the CEO). How did you come up with such a brilliant plan? Perhaps we need to go further and keep just interns and lay off G5 and G6 too?

That's bullsh*t. I'm G8 and code my assoff 24/7 7 days a week.

We had G8s and G9s cut in our department, it's really G10+ that isn't impacted the same way. There are more G5-G7s overall, so of course you're going to hear more of them being cut.

Generalizations about what PE's do, are just that... generalizations. I am not a PE, but personally know some that lost their jobs this week. It is unfortunate when ANYONE who contributes to their employer is not appreciated for what they accomplish.

Companies are not in the business of 'appreciation'. They are in the business of growth and value to the shareholders, and their customers who have growing expectations of capabilities and cost.
