Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Anybody knows the ISP COBRA package is just Intel cutting you a check, or Intel is paying COBRA directly ?

If the former that means one could pocket part of it by not choosing some coverage (e.g. vision, dental) that one can live without.

@1phz, thanks, hopefully this helps...and it is precisely why I cringe when I hear politicians say they want to "do away with Obamacare"...because, without it, I would have been toast - a lot of ppl would be. I genuinely believe that many ppl impacted will soon see that Obamacare has advantages. The subsidies are a separate issue...but having the comfort of knowing I can't be denied coverage is priceless. I've never had any health issues, seriously, sinus infection was it, and that triggered a denial! Another helpful tip is to get dental coverage through COSTCO if you have a membership, they offer full Delta Dental coverage for only $88 per year to members. And my VSP is only $16 per month. I only used the CA exchange for my medical :)

great story, 1ntd. I guess that it is one of the positives of the ACA, not being able to deny coverage based on past medical expenses.

when I was termed a few years ago, Intel paid my full medical (via Cobra) for 6 months, then I paid my Cobra for an additional 6 months (at $800 per month for myself only) before I got my own individual coverage through the CA exchange, my medical insurance is now $400 per month through Blue Shield. I had Cigna for 15 years but they denied me individual coverage in 2012 (prior to ACA passage) because i had a sinus infection in 2005. Once the ACA was passed, no insurance companies are allowed to deny coverage, so I was able to get Blue Shield...at $400 per month, for just myself.

in CA they offer 9K or Intel pays cobra directly for 6 months. Its federal law that everyone must have health coverage under the ACA, if you don't get your own health coverage through your state's exchange, you get taxed a penalty at the end of the year. Word of advice to all of those ee's who have had group coverage for all of these years....getting individual coverage sucks, you can get denied for having something as minor as a one-time sinus infection in your medical history. But having coverage is required so you really have no choice but to pay the premiums. I bet a lot of ppl who realize how expensive health insurance is will quickly change their tone about ACA once they figure out how difficult it is to get medical coverage, without it, they'd be screwed. Something a lot of people take for granted working for a large corp who offers benefits :/

@HbM4Ldk-1hgz: Just to be clear, you're saying that Intel is paying for post-ISP/VSP Cobra coverage for 6 or 12 months depending on what's chosen.

Which of the scenarios below does that equate to?

-Intel pays the same portion of medical/dental/vision they've always paid and we pay the remainder as we always have (like normal for BB);

-Intel pays all the Cobra coverage, meaning Intel picks up ALL of it;

-Intel allows you to be connected to the Intel medical plan network via Cobra, but the ISP/VSP employee picks up the entire tab;

-Some weird hybrid of the above;

-Something different.

Just want clarity...
