The moron who "commanded" $80-per-hour need to comprehend that there are hundreds of equally competent or better engineers who would do it at half the cost. We in the US are condemned to perpetually climb the skills ladder and innovate. You stop that and you are overrun by the H1B infantry. Don't fight evolution... The fittest only survives.

Let us get more teenagers to embrace STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) and Arts - instead of wasting their time in high schools and dropping out! We will THEN NOT need H1Bs from outside this great country!
And BTW - each of us is an immigrant into this great country. Let us not forget that (after we killed majority of Native Indians).
Write and call your senators and congress rep to stop H1B. The tech companies are promoting corporate slavery and keep salaries depressed in the tech space. Do it now and best during election season.
I've been doing contract engineering work for about 40 years, and worked in a lot of different places. I have never met a Chinese or an Indian engineer that ever made a mistake. At least, none of them ever admitted it.
Now all the headhunters (OOOPS! "Recruiters") are Indian guys, and almost none of them are intelligible over the phone. Blame AT&T's Signal to Noise Ratio. They continue to be astonished that as an American, I can command rates that H1B Visa folks can only dream of. My last contract was $80 an hour. And they are offering half that? Really?
Call me racist, if you will, but these folks come to my country, which I fought for and defended when I was a young soldier, and now they have the right to take my job away from me?
Bill Gates and his peers make an annual pilgrimage to Congress every year, asking for more H1B Visas. CEO's all over the country cry about the lack of scientists and engineers available in the workforce. The truth is, the bean counters have taken over, and there are plenty of skilled technical people available, the problem is that they can't pay their mortgages and buy groceries for the money the bean counters are willing to offer. The solution to the problem is to hire foreigners, pay them half what you pay an American, and go find an immigration lawyer that can handle the Visa issue.

Agree, as H1B is a temporary stop-gap programme to supplement the shortage of staff/workers in USA. As now there is no shortage of workers in USA, USA workers have to look for work due to H1B overuse by greedy managers and companies. It must be stopped for some time.
For H1B whiners, all H1B/immigrant is not doing any miracles, great creative, innovative or etc., many thousands are doing very simple easy tasks including IT-Area, just job doers for average pay/job/location/position without much talking/questioning due to GreenCard and H1B Status incentives. Also today in globalized world, if they claim everyone H1B doing creative/innovativ/miracles, can be done in their country itself. This I am writing due to fairness feeling should also expressed by H1Bs when they expect so much fairness for them in US, worker/job perspective!
Also how H1B guys ask for fainess in theirs living here... they too should think is that fair snatching simple works through H1B misuse by companies....
H1B is supplement staffing for temporary time and not for permanent for many years. Greedy companies misuse and abusing this with L1B programme just to save some money and stability to staff turnover in the projects/company.
By forcing the best of the best into unemployment? LOL
They're here to create jobs. Lol
