Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

So here's the truth from a long time person who hasn't been ISP'ed yet...

Years ago, we had Ranking and Rating. As a manager no matter what rating you gave your employee (meets, exceeds, does not meets, etc). you went into a conference room with your peer managers and compared ratings. It was a check and balance system. Some managers over-rated their buddies but the other managers ensured that equal performance got equal ratings. I've even seen employees rating get improved by other managers. Remember, this was all in the past.

Fast forward to today. Nowadays, a manager is given a bucket of stock that he can assign to each of his employees. It is solely that person who decides what stock level to give that employee. It is rarely reviewed (as long as he meets his budget) and the poor employee who received SL4 or SL5 is pretty much on his own.

Unfortunately this is the system. I and only I chose to work here.

Grade level 9 and above are assigned SSL differently. They get pushed up and managed across all employees in their grade level. So those folks are competing for stock levels across the org

Yes, I have only noticed real good performers being axed, the dead beats kiss a are the ones remaining at Intel now. this company's future is bleak. Guys, if you have the confidence in you, just get out as soon as you can.

That provides some good explanation for the reasons good people are being walked out of AZFSM. The 2nd/3rd level mgmt is composed of extremely poor leaders, people who can't manage their way out of a paper bag, and take great pleasure in disposing of anybody who challenges their decisions and stke of management. No wonder why Intel is in such bad shape.

R&R also has its flaws. Managers will try to get as much for their team as possible and the ones that are more aggressive and better at politics will tend to get more for their own teams. Today, the calibration between teams are supposed to happen at 2nd level and 3rd level managers. It's just not as heavy as R&R days and not all 2nd level and 3rd level managers may do it effectively.

agree. I remember those days...for as grueling as R&R was, it was more equitable than what is happening now for sure.

All the dead beats that I know are still here. I only see good people escorted out.

Regardless if its stocks or rank and rating, it still pretty subjective. With this layoff they might have shot themselves in the foot, hopefully they are able to get good a portion of the dead beats anyway.
