I've bought two laptops since leaving Intel - both HPs without an Intel chip inside.

Very happy with both and that I didn't support the company that treated me so poorly.

Hope Apple is working with monitor suppliers to enable wireless docking to monitors. Game will be over then for Intel. Many things working against Intel. I say 2-3 yrs as well.

I think the original post was tongue in cheek.

Apple is one OS recompile away from making the whole PC line from top to bottom ARM. But they get such good special deals from intel, they keep giving it to BK who goes to Tim and gets on his knees and bends over backwards as well. It is such a good service that Intel gives the fruit company, but they are really only one product and one process slip up from where no matter what BK does Apple may just go to ARM.

Imagine that say 10nm is late by a year and half, TSMC 10 and 7nm come in on time, and the ARM continues to see performance/power benefits. Imagine the whole macbook line moving to ARM!

Just like Apple moved from 6800 to PowerPc to x86 because each time the supplier of the silicon stalled in process development. The situation is becoming real again as x86 process improvement is stalling for the same reason it did at Moto and IBM, not enough volume to justify the R&D and not enough inertia to drive the schedule.

Indeed the Macs will go to ARM and then the Mac line will beat the x86 line that everyone else has running windows, that will slowly drive Apple MS up and up..

Scary times for Intel....

Surprised WiGig is not out yet. That would put the final nail in the coffin. Carrying 10 lb laptop is not cool.

Once mobile OS (Android&iOS) support desktop mode and smartphones support wireless docking (WiGig) Intel laptop sales will plunge.

I believe it's 2-3 years away.

You guys realize you are all talking about ARM processors. No word of x86.

Sure, a spoon is light and mobile. But wouldn't you rather dig a ditch with a shovel?

Most of the PC use cases have moved to smartphone. Things like browsing, online shopping , photo editing, video playback ,gaming etc have moved to smartphone. Next disruption is dockable smartphone where we can do productivity work. Nokia has already shown these capability, its matter of time when rest of competition will show this capability using android and iOS. Once this happens, PC is history.

September is launch date, despite all the pundits talking sales will be crazy good. Benchmarks already in and it smokes anything intel has in the low power space.

What is more amazing when you scale the new chip up or smokes the high performance intel. Intel is in big trouble as the Ape designers in collaboration with TSMC look exceedingly good. Bring on the plus but too little to late!

Imagine docking your phone into a dock connected to a large monitor and keyboard.

What do I need a wintel PC for now?

@edv. - I totally agree that it doesn't seem practical to work on documents, etc on a phone but I have to tell you that I have a teen who thinks it's perfectly acceptable to use the phone to create and work on documents, do homework, shop, spreadsheets, etc... It's crazy. They use google docs for everything and keep all their work in the cloud. I've heard other parents say they've witnessed the same behavior. Whenever I see my kids doing it, I make them get their laptops but they definitely prefer the phone. The only time they insist on the desktop is when they're gaming.

Galaxy S7 is a far batter machine than some unreleased Apple crap.

But neither of them are a good "computer." I would hate to work on a document, project, term paper or edit a photo or video on one.

Now ES&D troll.
