Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

It could have been so different

What if bk stood up in that meeting at the end of April and stated the difficulties the company is facing. How certain ventures had not worked out as they expected and how this has probably impacted morale leading to some people underperforming in the last year. He could then say that headcount has to be reduced in order to meet revenue and profit targets. And that for want of a better metric he is going to use this year's focal results to execute the reduction. Since this is such a blunt tool he knows that we will lose many high performers and people with deep technical knowledge. But layoffs at this scope and speed can only be done in such fashion. He could then say that he hopes to put the business in a better footing and hopes with thus world class package people would consider returning to Intel in the future.

BK would have gained respect by respecting the truth and the people impacted. I think that is the difference.

It takes courage, honest and intelligence to (courageously, honestly and intelligently) admit mistakes or imperfection. Something are missing in our leader.

BK does not care about the employee. Period. He does not know how to make money for the company (he is a fab guy), all he knows ... is cut cut and save, save. What you said above is totally uncharacteristic of him. Why would he say that anyway, he wants the HR people to do the dirty work for him. If anyone questions him about the layoff, he would probably deny that he did not make the decision, HR came up with the metric. As long as he is still CEO, I would not be surprised if this will become an annual event.

"the three who don't do squat are still here and five who actually work are gone."

While the others are working, the three are spending their time "managing up": stealing credit for the work the group has done and badmouthing the others who are actually doing the work.

Sadly, that's how Intel works.

"diversity dollars" adding to the bottom line? Since when did a government boondoggle as to the bottom line ?

Speaking from my experience in my limited time with Intel, using the twenty people I deal with regularly as a sample, the three who don't do squat are still here and five who actually work are gone.

I'm still waiting for those billions of "diversity dollars" to show up on the bottom line.

That would be like applying a cool anaesthetic with added aloe perfume before slitting your throat. $17B in failed acquisition is a straight IR in the books any sensible financial analyst.

If BK had admitted certain ventures didn't work out and that it resulted in $10B loss, by Intel's own performance standards, doesn't that deserve an IR? Doesn't that qualify Intel leadership pink slips? Doesn't that qualify for immediate boot from Intel buildings & a perp walk from Intel premises?

"A narcissist such as BK would never admit to any wrong doing."

Of course. Giant mistakes = victories for "leadership" and failures for everyone else. We just need to rid the company of "low performers" and get more people like BK. LOL

Intel is the only place where I've ever worked where a manager can be viewed as successful while the people under him/her have "failed" - the two are somehow detached in accountability.

This is SO spot on!!!

BK is embodiment of arrogance, ignorance and the throw your own people under the bus style of "leadership" so prevalent at Intel. I wasn't there long but God was it dysfunctional...

"BK is a guy that has no leadership abilities whatsoever. He's a FAB manager that can follow directions given to him and belittle other humans as little more than tools on a production line. He's a socially awkward and horrible person that has no concern at all for people. He is a self loathing idiot that believes he's the smartest guy in the room at all times, but functionally had absolutely no idea what he's doing outside of running a fab.

There is nothing he could have done to make this better. He's not a leader he's only capable of handling out ARs. Frankly he's exactly what has been wrong with the Intel culture for years. He treats people like garbage, he's a manager with zero management capabilities or people skills, he's extremely limited in his knowledge, but he excels at throwing people under the bus. He knows that for people that don't see the dark underbelly of Intel daily, that his diversity facade can protect him.

And not only could it never have been different, it will only get worse until the board wakes up. And I have no confidence the board will do that as it's filled with like minded people there simply to collect an easy buck.

Watch his open forum Wednesday. He will double down on his stance, he will tell you everything is great and they did everything perfectly. He didn't make mistakes. Only his employees do that. He will talk about how for the masses you need to perform and improve, while he makes incorrect and bad decisions and costs the company billions. You can't have a bad month. Ever. He can f--- up repeatedly with no consequence. You get 2%, maybe. He's getting 50%. You are expected to work with ever changing and hidden performance metrics, he gets to do anything he wants.

He is what he is. He's the worst of every stereotype of Intel."

Direct and transparent he was wasn't he.

He talked about how sad he was at some function for friends he would let go.

BK is a disingenuous person as it clear now. So with that track record on can't trust a thing he says or claims to believe going forward.

Every employee must decide if they believe he has a plan and whther they believe him.

At his next BUM ask him when Moore's Law end and what is the plan? No exponential last forever.

Ask him what was the feedback from his staff about ACT and dead the loss of good versus underperformed with it?
