Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Intel should be next TSMC

Why doesn't Intel open its fabs and IPs to fabless companies. Intel can succeed more than TSMC did in this space. Imo

Warren Buffett has only one piece of advice for businesses- delight your customer.

When your customer is given by fiat (Microsoft) then you don't have to give a sh!t. The only problem is when Microsoft becomes irrelevant - whoops!

There is a good video about Morris Chang where he was asked how he judged and measured his fab managers. In the interview they asked was it profits, was it TPT, was it ROI.

BTW the interviewer was the CEO of Nvidia

Morris replied he called TSMC customers and asked where they happy.

Any questions now why TMG is and will continue to fail. Ask any internal product division if they enjoy working with TMG and they don't have a choice. Now imagine if you do and you are told you don't know what you want, you don't know what is good, you are challenged on everything that you ask for. Basically you are treated lik $hit.

Now TSMC has huge customer just like Samsung, they can invest the billions in R&D knowing the customer will order more silicon than intel total x86, and that isn't even their only customer.

They are now ahead by almost every metric.

Intel and TMG really squandered their lead with their epic arrogance!

Intel is too difficult to deal with and will chisel any profit available. Unethical bastards.

Even if Intel somehow became competitive (LOL) with TSMC, no one in the industry would ever trust Intel.

Intel is a potential competitor. TSMC doesn't compete with their customers.

Intel has a habit of screwing over their partners.

Intel did start foundry business at RA1 Oregon and failed miserably with close to zero profit as I heard. But still they continue to do so as they are habituated with this failed business practices.

If you have ever been at TSMC you would know. Very talented and motivated employees. Sorry Intel.

Yup agree with all the detractors sadly. ICF and ptd strong arms customers to collect yield data their way, as an example. Heard that tsmc doesn't care about product yield - that's their customers' and osat ownership.

Would apple broadcom etc ever wanna work with a high maintenance partnership?

Because barely anyone can work with Intel fab and I.P. even internally, let alone externally?

TSMC, GF, SMIC etc, provide service and competition. Intel fab basically doesn't have to do that internally, and no longer has any technical or yield advantage, nor concept of customer service at the same level as the Foundries.

Plus, most everyone remembers (at least those of us old enough) being screwed by Intel on fab and certain product availability once there was an uptick in demand, and they no longer needed to fill the wafers. So that involves and inevitable risk that most are not willing to take.

Many companies are realizing that FinFET brings dynamic power issues (while improving leakage) but that they can do better (financially) with cheaper (cost-per-gate) 28nm processes unless pushing the bleeding edge (of which few really are).

High cost?

Slow customer response?

High complexity leading to long design cycles?

Shall I count the ways?

1) Infineon acquired in 2010 still has not delivered a modem on Intel technology

2) Sofia cancelled

3) No major customer announcements except for Altera which Intel bought! It's sad when you have to buy your only customer

4) Even Altera can't get a design out on Intel 14nm on time. Delayed to mid-2017

Qualcomm and Apple would love to diversify their fabs but you don't see them knocking at Intel's door do you? Perhaps Intel's "Premium" transistors aren't so premium after all?

Intel has a Foundry Service. You haven't heard of IFS? Intel will have problems competing against TSMC because of Intel's need for higher margins. Intel has been trying to increase their foundry services for the past 5 years or so.

LAMO .. If you don't know the answer by now you are truely clueless..

TSMC is a service orientated company .. since when does TMG have a service mentality?

It has always been my way or the highway in TMG .. one of the reasons why ICF will fail ..
