Got a letter today explaining the health benefits for my family have been canceled. I have no information from COBRA, except they are waiting for the severance paper work to be processed. I signed the paper work as soon as I got it and for the past 10 days I have no coverage.
Does anyone experienced this or have more information?
anyone know how you verify that coverage is back to normal. I logged in after signing up a while ago, and I don't see anything that would indicate either way...

Intel pays for Cobra (health, dental, vision) directly. After your Cobra coverage through Intel expires (either 6 months or 12 months, depending on what you choose), you need to disenroll through the benefits center or you'll get charged personally.
I believe I read somewhere in the packet they pay directly.
After we enroll online, would Intel pay the COBRA administrator directly ? Or Intel just sends us a lump sum check and then we pay the administrator monthly ?

You should call your insurance and ask for COBRA enrollment.
Cobra is slow to activate coverage. But it's retroactive so you'll be covered eventually. In the meantime pray that neither you nor a family member have a health emergency requiring something like a CT scan because you'll have to pay for it yourself and then ask Cobra to reimburse you -- which they will, but again it retakes forever to get the check and requires some significant paperwork. Some doctors will delay billing, but not everyone.

It does take some time to become active, but the coverage is retroactive.
You may have to pay out of pocket now and file for reimbursement when it processes. Or do like I did, and just ask the doctors to refile in a week or two...
Did you enroll in COBRA (either online or through the Benefits website)? It's different than your severance paperwork and you need to enroll.
I enrolled and it somehow takes a few days for "processing".
