Thread regarding Seagate Technology Inc. layoffs

I think Seagate is a Great place to work

In MN, things are going really well. We have a really top-notch management team. They are very inspiring. We are always being asked for our feedback, and the culture is so vibrant. There is no stagnation of any kind. Directors and VPs are ALWAYS meeting with their direct and indirect reports in order to better address morale and employee needs- even though that is hardly needed. They hold round-tables and other fora and they really LISTEN and ACT. There is no micromanagement, and we have no more than the minimal number of meetings that we need. It is all very streamlined and efficient. We are making such incredible progress on all of our future technologies, so there is no doubt that we will be THE storage vendor of the future. I don't see how WD, or any of the SSD companies for that matter, will really be able to compete with us going forward. Not with this caliber of talented management. They routinely criss-cross the globe in order to cover all the bases. They even make sacrifices like having to go to far-off locales like Bali in order to hold important strategy meetings for us. They are so dynamic, so talented, and so conscious of How To Build A Great Workplace. And with I-Map, of course, we have the single most objective, fair, efficient, effective, sound, inventive and inspiring method of accurately quantifying employee performance. In fact, it works so well, that all of us get the same incredible ranking every year! A "3"! Isn't that amazing? Proof positive that we are all as Driven and Innovative as any technical group anywhere. Is there any other Employer Of Choice anywhere quite like this? I think not. So quit complaining.

Agreed that some always blow up the small matter to make it big and get local consultants to fly to the site to solve the problem including his team members.

Their local consultants were good but they want hired consultants to help them to justify the problem was serious instead of small issue. Yes now we all learn that cost tell the true and we get the cut.

Alpha, we always blow up small problem to big and when screw up, blame the sites..,

Then we justify our to solve the problem with high spending including getting consultants from here not from their local to solve the problem.

I have learned from the others that their local consultants were not competent and will help them.

Now we can see the knife also cutting us with high cost

Douglas, fully agreed with you but you need to understand with the less and less allocation of budget. We have to consider the exchange rate to S$, RM$, $THB and $RMB, for local we need to justify more。

In iMap, we have to write more for them to justify the amount of dollar given.

But some did claiming the credit for their site staff and put under local to justify the rating.

Sharing our experience, STX is a great place to work however nothing is perfect some site staff working hard but credit claims by some in IHQ heavy weight boss.

Site staff has been asked to solve the other sites problem and his boss has make a big publicity to claim the credit and contribution was from him. Annual performance for those site staff shall not more than 3 but rating 4 is reserved for his IHQ gang including RSU....

Copy his staff proposal and send back to his site staff and claimed the idea was from him..... bigger jokers as his boss was not aware email post date of generation

I think his site staff deserved to be a director rather then him .... why don't save some cost to pay or hire more site staff ....

still have many many fat and heavy weight boss to slim

Good luck STX....

You've really absorbed the messaging and programming properly as designed and are able to effectively communicate it to others. Well done. I'm 100% certain there would be unanimous upper management agreement with this post. You are clearly fully in touch and on task and can appreciate what it means to be awarded an ice cream sandwich that you truly have earned for this. You are on your way to success with the right way thinking. The Seagate Way. Neither passive nor aggressive, but just the right amount of ambiguity to inspire. Bravo!

Ha ha ha - you made my otherwise dull day - good sense of humor .... And we should specially mention about out CTO & CEO - the amount of hard work they are putting to take the company down the drain - what a sacrifice ...

Maybe at your site, are you trying to woo the management for not retranching you so you say good words about the company...?

You usually only get this sort of sarcastic humour in the Uk. This post could be taken as real in other parts of the world.
