Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Random Question

Am I allowed to install non-corporate approved software on my machine? I am using TeamViewer to control my home automation via a computer installed at home and would like to have it installed but I am not sure if this would put me in some kind of 'equipment' use violation.

I used to work for a small consulting company prior to joining IBM (2 months ago) and we were allowed to run our own software...

Another random question - I have a personal copy of Adobe Photoshop CS2 - this was released 10+ years ago but it's still working fine - I have packaging, serial, etc. - Am I allowed to install this as well? Adobe is in fact, giving this version for free as well.

Thoughts?

If you are a privileged user, ie.. accessing a Customer network on the machine in question, you are subject to, unbeknownst to you, security scans. If you are flagged and you don't have a legitimate business reason, this is a fireable offense. You were most likely made aware of this in some form or fashion. I can't recall if this is included within the BCG's or if this was a separate communication. It is however clearly documented to include personally owned USB devices, unauthorized software, non IBM approved websites, etc..

If you are a non-privileged user, have at it and hope for the best when you attempt to connect to AT&T the next morning.

@HOKZblL-yyd I think he/she is asking here as we really do not have an anonymous discussion space for questions like this - it's a legit question regardless of the corresponding responses

It is curious that you would come to this site (IBM Layoffs) to ask a question about downloading unauthorized software on your IBM machine. But since you asked for our thoughts, I would say don't do it. IBM laptops are automatically scanned at least once a week to check for unauthorized software. A passed / failed report is sent to you, your manager and to IT Security with the reasons for the failure. Why give IBM a reason to put you on the RA list.

I was with IBM for about 7 years and I could care less about what I installed... Tools that help me with work, movies, even games. I had CD ROM exe files. Never had issues. Traveled a lot though, you need to be entertained, right...
