Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Racism in IT

Now that the strike is over IT can go back to being massively racist. Shankar and his almost all Indian male direct reports and their Indian male reports can finish the ethnic cleansing that started when he became CIO. The only qualifications you need to become a director now is to be Indian, male and worked on the wireline side. Within 2 years there will only be Indians left at the current rate. Wanting to do the job the right way is no longer a good thing.

I'll take a Pakistani over an East Indian any day.

And I'll take a bucket of pig manure over a Pakistani any day.

Pig manure at least makes good fertilizer.

Maybe Anglo Americans should be willing to work in other countries, just like the rest of the world does when they can't find work in their home country.

WTF ? Are you really that pig-sh__ ignorant ? You think there are no white Americans working overseas ? Or, wait, it's not occurred to you that maybe some of the white people here are not American, and are also on H1B. Just freakin stop for a minute and think. None of your halfassed justifications for discrimination make any difference. It's still discrimination.

It would be less of a concern if Verizon's IT were adequate, but it isn't.

No it would not be less of a concern. Having successful business operations is no justification for racism. That's not how this country works, or any decent country or people.

Your other comments are valid.

The poster prior to you, if not a troll, simply illustrates the type of veiled racism that goes on. When you walk down the hallway and see your own management clearly cold shoulder those who are not "brothers" there is not much you can do. Sure, tell HR. HR have been told on many occasions by many people and have done squat about it. Don't get me started on the ones in management positions who can barely communicate in English. At least they are consistently racist though : search the web for rentals rooms in the north Atlanta suburbs. It's not hard to find listings where they will only take Indian renters. That is also illegal in the USA. Might add, there are a good number of perfectly decent and non-racist people in VZ IT including many Indians. I'd say to the discriminators "behave like your mother taught you to", but the problem is that they already are. #culture The bottom line is that you can take the boy out of India but you can't take India out of the boy.

It would be less of a concern if Verizon's IT were adequate, but it isn't. I've yet to see an internal accounting, material handling, engineering, personnel, or trouble tracking system work as required. Life at Verizon is an endless parade of "work-arounds" which waste endless piles of time and money.

Not for nothing, but indians have been abused the last 200 years in this country, dont get me wrong, I like the next guy like to watch john wayne movies and see them win over the indians but this a new era and the indians should be given a chance..My only beef is in the lunch room, sometimes feathers from their head dress fall off and leave a mess at the table...Perhaps VZ could ask them to remove their head dress and arrow pouch at the door?

Last time I counted it was almost 95% Indian management in my org (IT in New Jersey and Georgia) At one point there was 1 white female manager. Every single other mgr all the way up to Shankar was Indian, and all male save maybe 3 or 4 female. At the grunt level it's about 50% Indian, 50% "other", being mostly white, and various SE Asian. Only a handful of black, latino, and other. One time there were about 15 or so hires made in the space of 3-4 weeks. Use your own imagination about the make-up. But none of this could possibly be racist because #credo, so I guess it's just a huge coincidence. If this ever made it into the mainstream press it would make interesting reading, but I doubt it'll ever happen.

Racism at Verizon? Say it isn't so!

Offshoring jobs at Verizon? I can't believe what I'm hearing?

Replacing onshore skilled resources with #H1B Visa people just to save $$$!?! No way, that is illegal!!

But it's pretty evident Verizon is guilty as charged.
