Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

So sad that so many people joined this industry for the money and haven't a clue.

I am a firm believer in you get what you earn and the world isn't fair so deal with it. I have to say if you put your whole life into a company you are an idiot. When you look back at your life I hope you have more than your job. If not you led a sad life

This is why what is happening at ConocPhillips is not liberalim:

• civil liberty: oil companies do not operate with the same civil liberty ethics as their home country or even try to move things in that direction. That IS the very definition of NO ethics. If we believed in burnign babies to build pipelines we would be on solid geound but we don't.

• rule of law: companies routinely break federal anti discriminatiin laws and simply pay the money.

• representative democracy: companies buy elections, there is no difference between republicans and democrats - money wins either way and "news" has been dumbed down so much and segmented by political orientation that nobody with a mind can watch it anymore (CNN / FOX and NBC). News is entertainment and nothing more.

• economic freedom: oil companies are too big and should be broken up to allow "free competion." Now, any non liberals want to advicate big business?

... this is why the headwinds are against this industry - time to be part of the dialoigue on public policy issues such as climate change or be a victim of it. It seems to me that the true victims are the products of conservatism ...

In my opinion, there are a lot of people on this site who are too "something" to know better. It has nothing to do with chronological age, whether young or old, but everything to do with maturity and perspective. If you've never been laid off, you can't imagine how it feels. Stop presuming everyone here was laid off because they are stupid or a poor performer. Stop judging. In 2015, I received multiple accolades from my management for all my contributions - a top rating, extra VCIP, a large special recognition, and even a SPIRIT award. In the end, none of that mattered because my position was eliminated and for the first time in my life, I just wasn't needed anymore. That's not my fault, it just is. That doesn't make me stupid, worthless, old, irresponsible, lazy, or unaccountable. It makes me a hard-working, high-performing, dedicated employee who is available and searching for my next role. If you're still employed at COP, I wish you all the best, but don't get complacent or confident just yet. Absolutely no one is indispensible. If you've never had to experience a layoff, I hope you never will. If you are among those of us who have been laid off, I wish you the best too, but I'm pretty sure you won't find it here. Unless of course some of the online haters decide to check themselves and realize this can truly happen to anyone. Your former co-workers still deserve your respect and professionalism.

Classical Liberalism advocates civil liberties and political freedom with representative democracy under the rule of law and emphasises economic freedom. Which if those do you not agree with?

Liberals expect someone else to take care of them. They are always victims with someone else responsible. Liberals believe that hugs and kind thoughts will power the world!

That is a response typical of someone with no boundaries - I give 100% to things I am commited to, and a salaried job is one of those commitments. Anyway - what is wrong with being a liberal?

Typical left wing liberal! You don't give a 100% because it's expected or you expect something for it, you give 100% for yourself, personal satisfaction and pride! Personal accountability and responsibility! These traits are not listed in the liberal hand book!

The world has changed - companies no longer show any loyalty to employees but expect it back. All that changed when employees cut pension benefits and decided to layoff the "bottom" ten percent (those with significant personal issues that year).

I am not young, and anybody that gives a 100% to a company is a fool!!!Your company will never appreciate it, if they even realize it. Get real!!!

Some young people just don't get it. I do! I saw my mom put her life into the company to be put out to pasture too early. Those young people who comment about how the government will take care of old people don't really seem to understand WHO the government is and HOW the government takes care of people. 1. People who worked all their lives have paid into social security. They are truly entitled to a check one day. You young people THINK you are entitled to a big check without paying your dues. 2. The government funds social security from taxes. So you young people need to work a LONG LONG TIME to pay taxes to take care of those 'old farts' who were cut too soon after years and years of being a loyal employee. 3. Depending on who is running the government, you young people might get less and less of your check because taxes will eat your check up to take care of 'old farts'.

So young people , keep your job because one day I will be an 'old fart' and I want you to work to pay more and more taxes to take care of me.

You can't fix stupid so you give them a nice severance package and send the on their way! the government will take care of you!
