Qualcomm in going thru down times, layoffs and getting eaten by Mediatek and the cheaper Chinese companies
Step 2B: Try to dominate IIC, OIF and other standards bodies to adopt Intel-friendly standards
Who is going to allow Intel anothe repeat of WinTel with their X86. Everyone is lobbying for their own standard. Intel has failed with every bet on standards to date because they were such A-holes with x86 to their customers. Just ask Dell and others, LOL.
Step 3: Create "E2E IoT Platform reference architectures" that tie the data center to the edge
Data center money is huge, every deep pocket is after that! Most frightening is that the bankaccount and capability of Google, Amazon and MS in this arena and they have huge motivation to get out of x86. They want to relegate Intel to 30% GM on servers, they currently are screwing everyone because their is no competition and exactly why nobody will let Intel friendly standards every exist again!
Step 4: Lose money because no one actually talked to a customer or understands the market
This is true in everything but server and client where they have a monopoly.
Say again why anyone expect intel to win in any new market? Intel needs to identify and create a compelling product before it is compelling. The PC and the smartphone are good examples.. but you have a rather not so smart CEO so that ain't going to happen.
1) If intel is lucky client continues to drop at 7-10% and volumes in PC decline but not too bad so they can continue to have two big fabs ( BTW their fabs are small dicks in the world of silicon fabs ). So the lower volumes in a space where there is no competition means technology pace will slow...
2) 10nm hopefully appears in 2nd half of 2017 and ramps in 2018.
3) 14nm hopefully the internal modems all work out
1) is a certain which means revenues continue to drop
2) is very high risk for slipping more and more meaning huge factories overseas sitting empty
3) is very high risk, intel has had no track record of designing tricky analog and this is being done by external bought team with huge friction and poor working relationship with the TMG technologists. I expect a spectacular failure in the first rounds
