Intel had but one customer for foundry business. They took the customer over! They could have instead licensed the technology and included it in their products. Enormous waste of money and big risk in locking themselves, unable to use a better competing technology.
Story is the same with McAfee. With McAfee they didn't even bother to think through whether the technology can easily integrate with their products.
It has been unmitigated disaster with Infineon too. Nobody knows who is buying their modems which after good few years, still can't even be fabbed in Intel factories.
Why can't Intel license the technologies they need and ensure they are proven with their products instead of wasting billions ? This is also an indicator as to how dumb their leadership is. Their leadership development program needs a serious rethink.
