Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Massage from INTEL friendly, kind, humane HR and INTEL Legal

_@HJDDu3S-itn writes: Analysis is from bitter person about being let go. The longer people have been at Intel, more stupid they are. Why do you think Intel is getting rid of people and bringing in fresh blood with lucrative offers. Also focal is being changed to being kinder. There is simply no need for old dead wood or people with no skills who just come to work at Intel to collect paycheck for repeating monkey work.. powerpoint, word documents and playing politics against their peers. Intel will become a better company after getting rid of rodents and being lean and objective oriented with better work environment. Half the people let go can not get job outside Intel, why should Intel want the unwanted.

GET OVER THE REJECTION AND MOVE ON WITH EASY AND GENEROUS $$$$ HANDED OUT TO YOU BY INTEL._

Nice, kind, mild and generous/humane behavior! Thank you vary much, INTEL HR.

to@HJrrqGL-1sgn: it is wishful thinking:( some bad ones make a guess on who wrote him a bad feedback and then retaliate the employee. That indeed happened.

"EEs have no option to rate their FLMs. Sad but true!"

All employees used to be able to rate their FLMs. Intel, please bring this back and make it part of the manager's focal. Why did Intel get rid of this? Don't they want to know how their managers are doing? When we had it before, it seemed to work pretty well. If managers didn't get a good rating, the factory manager would follow up with the manager's employees to find out more specifics as to what was going on. The rating of FLMs is the only way for Intel to really know what problems they have with their managers. If managers were really good and doing their jobs properly, Intel would not need to resort to a lame computer algorithm for these current layoffs. Hire good managers and let them decide who gets ISP, VSP, etc.

Good managers that want to do the right things end up getting squeezed out by back stabbers and politics. As a manager, I've thought long and hard on how to solve the problem without a concrete answer. It seems the only way is to do the wrong things so we can survive, then we can try to do the right things. My fear is once one turns to the dark side, there's no coming back.

BTW my post below is not to complain, but to request for improvements. If it does not, people, as many of EEs are doing every year, will leave by themselves and move to other companies (and competitors companies). If that helps Intel to be one the failed companies list, and Intel wants to be one of them, let is run the way it is running now.

I am the @HJrrqGL-eid - To speak the truth I have not seen any bad people from my group were let go, all the good hard-working, soft-spoken and new ppl were ISP'ed from my group. The bad people (some senior ICs, senior engineers who were downgraded from Managerial position) made the list of The Leftovers at Intel. Bad employees who make new RCGs work day in and out are still there untouched because they may have received/ argued with SLM to get great reviews at focal, in contrast RCGs did not know much about the focal politics and were the victims along with old skilled employees.

When I talked to HR about that she told your job is very challenging and you may have evening meetings. HR failed to understand that 24hrs on-call in process jobs in TMG are not mere attending evening meetings, it's a full-time baby sitting from home or on-site all night looking at the station monitors, incoming lots/WIPs, Q-time etc. HRs do not understand the employee's job role, they interact directly to FLMs, SLMs but I do not see they are in interaction with any regular employee. Where is the HR to EEs interaction to understand new employee's difficulties? Any HR concerned about the broken training system in D1D/D1X Ramp, PTD (may be all over Intel)? HR will never understand as they do not interact with any employee. EEs have no option to rate their FLMs. Sad but true!

"The training system must be improved. "

Too bad that Intel just laid off a bunch of the training folks.

Intel is absolutely horrible at onboarding new people, especially experienced people from outside. New Hire Training is a joke and onboarding and retention doesn't seem like something that's valued up the chain. Turnover in my group has been astoundingly high, even before the current goat rodeo. Lots of really good, experienced people left Intel after less than a year. And no repercussions for their managers.

Either train them or if they can't cut it, get rid of them!!

They could not be trained. They're dead wood. Not possible to get rid of them, to few good ones who can cut it/do the job. Stale mate, no way out!

Agree completely with @eid. Intel has a HUGE problem with their managers. It did not use to be this way. Most of these managers (there are a few good ones) absolutely have no leadership skills whatsoever. Please Intel, do something about this. Either train them or if they can't cut it, get rid of them!!

Managers are crooked, this is not a performance based layoff. Dig a little bit and you will see it's all politics.

Most of the new RCGs Intel hired know nothing about semiconductors. They just hire a bunch of college grads and there is no one to train them. I am one of them. The training system must be improved. HR should play an active role in the hiring process, getting the focal system free from biased to races and good old employees. Hr at Intel are only active during layoffs. They are the most stupid and useless parts of Intel. New engineers work day in and out without knowing what the are doing. Managers are here to find out our mistakes and not to train us. They have no leadership skills. Sadly they are still our managers.

Work force disruparion will continue for a long time. We will all get old and outdated. We need a system like a 401k, we put in 5% employer puts in 5%. If u get layed off its there if u retire at 60 funds go back in pool. Bernie is right we need better safety nets.when you are 30 you think the good times are for ever. Age is a big issue. Look at Japan.6

the question is so simple: if you don't have a good leader, what do you expect from his follower? but I think you already got it.

@HJrrqGL-xci, this (what you are posting here) is a chicken/egg problem. What do you need first to behead: rotten HR department or ignorant/arrogant FLM squad??? Or, the best, both teams with one strike?! Or, maybe, INTEL BOD?

Nah, none of these will happen. The cancer spread too far.
