Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Rumor has it that Intel will announce that they met their 12k number on the 3rd of June.

No need to be concerned on whether to take VSP/ERP until the next round in Q1'17 when they will announce another 20k layoff.

Too busy telling customers what they wanted instead of giving them what they wanted.

"The failure of leadership was to not position Intel for the next big thing."

They were way too busy stabbing each other in the back and thinking that world revolves around Intel.

F11X will shutter within two years. Remaining ~1600 employees after this latest round of layoffs will go forth into the night.

We are grossly over capacity for fab space. Chandler has an empty factory. Lights out there.

Not enough meat on the bone to feed >80k employees. It will be a 50K employee company by 2020.

And, Wall Street will rejoice.

Wishful thinking ... this is not what SLM said last Friday. Said they are nowhere near, and still some groups will need to cut by 10-20% due to efficiencies. This is not over yet ... at least 3-4 more weeks to go.

We have another 2 months is what I'm hearing. Have to still lay off all those impacted by 'efficiencies'. This is coming next.

j-aof has it right, world economy is slowing, all the x86 products are not compelling for anyone to upgrade. Next technology node yield is low and the tooling crazy expensive. The 5g modem while a nice win all the profits will go to the manufacture which isn't Intel. The Chinese are working on ARM servers as is everyone else so nothing but contracting sales. Whether Intel hit 12k the larger issue at the company is broken, How can drones, IoT, and memory make up for the x86 goldmine. The failure of leadership was to not position Intel for the next big thing.

The issue with the future cuts is the separation package will be far worse. But one more year of pay and health care and working 80 hours a week competing for the level 1/2 or O/E will make the work environment a dream,LOL

Let's hope this rumor is true. Intel employees have been through the mud for the past year. Unfortunately layoffs are going to be a way of life at Intel. Intel's market share will continue to slide for the foreseeable future sad to say. Intel at some point has to make a decision to compete now that their chip are no longer superior in terms of market appetite. That means Intel has to accept lesser margins or the game is over completely. Intel knows it. These layoffs that have occurred over the past 12 months, and the next 12 months will impact Intel negatively for the next decade. There's no fix for what's going on for Intel other than the shareholders needs to fire Andy Bryant, BK, Murthy, and Stacey. That leadership group is horrible and will go down in history as the 4 who took Intel down with their stupidity.
