You study hard. You get through college and land a job. Work very hard to prove yourself. You start trying to live a normal life, wife kids and all that. You hardly have anytime left for anything. In the meantime technology passes you by. You become increasingly expensive and redundant. Your expirey date comes quick and you are out on the street with no relevant experiences to speak of. You come here to whine.

Most of this is true. Fortunately, I was one that didn't stay at work very long. Because I figured, the difference between me staying long hours or not long hours was maybe a 2% difference in my extra bonus, which after taxes (expecially since I hit Alternative Minimum Tax every year for the past 15 years), was literally an extra cup of starbucks coffee maybe every so often....My wife was smarter than me. She stayed home and when the real estate meltdown happened, she went to scout all the short sales and foreclosures, and she told me which ones to buy. They all cash flow really well now. Thank god she was thinking about plan B when I wasn't. I asked her if It was ok if I taught our son not to be an engineer he grows up, and she's like "sure, as long as he knows how to make money (legally) doing something else."
