Are URM focals conducted in the same manner as everyone else or is it bias?

"One of the major issues I have with the diversity initiative is that all the touting of the progress we've made makes all the progress sound superficial...What's really happening is that people are making the numbers look good but not really changing the culture..."

This is classic BK: Mistaking making the numbers for actual accomplishment.

And so goes Intel.

One of the major issues I have with the diversity initiative is that all the touting of the progress we've made makes all the progress sound superficial. Bias are hard to overcome and we all have it in us. To think that some simple training HR rolls out is suddenly going to change everyone's behavior and translate to Intel's diversity numbers is unrealistic and gives too much credit to HR and the people behind the initiative. What's really happening is that people are making the numbers look good but not really changing the culture or adhering to the real principle of hiring the best regardless of background. Otherwise why do we see so much resentment regarding the initiative? HR should not celebrate just the hiring and promotion numbers but also on health org survey on people's opinion of the initiative as well as how the initiative has helped Intel's revenue.

@nkg you're a URM and got an SSL4, but only a VSP? You don't see any possible flag there where you might have been treated better than others?

URM hire does not count towards headcount for a year, so managers facing resource crunch are forced to hire URM's. In focal, number of promo/E/O must correspond to the percentage of URM's and slow/SL4/SL5 must not exceed corresponding percentage of URM. Meaning, first you are forced to hire below average URM. In focal, even if all of them are at bottom, you must promo 10% of them and cannot give SL4/SL5 to more than 10% of them. Remember, because of additional URM heads, total team size is bigger, and hence to meet 15% distribution of SL4/SL5, some non-URM's, who may be well above URMs must to be sacrificed. So much about talks of meritocracy.

When you have QUOTAS for the employees with certain skin color then OF COURSE THERE IS RACISM. In 1960s and prior the quota was 100% white. Now the quota is for other skin colors. 2 wrongs don't make a right people - wake the Fxck up!

@-fka- Well, you need to go and talk to your buddy Jessie Jackson if that's the case. The race hustler will straighten out BK for not obeying his orders.

Look, 40+ yr-old URM and still got offered VSP. Got dinged for the communication skills thing during focal resulting in SSL4. I don't see URM that actively retained or promoted.

@fka I just want to be sure I understand here. Hiring and promoting based on race and gender is fine, and pointing out that it's unfair is racism. Did I get that right? I want to be sure you see, because if you agree with that then you'd be against women and minorities in the workplace to begin with since that's the exact same argument they used to break in. But I guess to you that's racist?

Of course there's bias. The direction was to push out the older population, make it as white and male as possible. Bain created the algorithm's to make that happen.

And, of course, URM will be promoted faster and quicker in order to retain the diversity on the "come work for us" website and comms. I mean FFS, look at the Intel hiring page on Glassdoor.

Look, here's an average meeting at RNB guys! https://s3.amazonaws.com/media.glassdoor/eep/1519/int_brand_891_TeamCollab_5600_cmyk2.jpg

Look, here's a team getting together and ideaating after a strategy meeting

Here's the gang just chilling out at a post CSD mixer! Word!

Wasting $10B chasing MSS, failing horrible and completely f---ing up the mobile segment is wasting $10B chasing MSS, failing horrible and completely f---ing up the mobile segment guys!

Wait, I mean "brilliance is brilliance"

Is there bias. Jesus man. Wake up.

I'm a URM and focal a are exactly not the same as your, you idiot. In fact I'm a 55+ URM and got VSP just like a lot of the whiny white male Folsom engineers in this site. So tired of the constant racism in this site. See you on the other side.

BK said that the goal was to hire and promote URM's to increase diversity.

Read into that whatever you'd like.

HR scrutinizes and thus managers are well aware of the interest in not hurting the statistics. You know what I mean ;). BK really cares about them numbers, LOL

Depends on the managers. Some incompetent but ably-political managers actually threw the URM under the bus to CYA.
