Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

When will internal hiring/transfers start up again?

I wasn't impacted by ISP, VSP, ER or project closure however, I'm in a very, very bad situation with my +1 manager ( my manager's manager). The guy is definitely out to get me. I speak out in meetings and question/scrutinize things that he does not want scrutinized. He can't really do anything because I'm a high performer, I'm on a high value project and my direct manager is protecting me (he's telling me what the guy is saying) but I definitely won't obtain anything beyond successful, SSL3 under this guy. Does anyone have any insight into when some of the jobs online opportunities will open up? I need to get the hell outta my group ASAP. I folks in CCG and Iot who had open reqs but everything see,s to be frozen now????

"What if I just tell the hiring manager ( the new manager), I can't get into a situation where I get SSL4. I need to be evaluated on my ramp up alone and only my new manager does my focal."

You're at the mercy of your new manager. Some are decent and will evaluate you fairly. Others won't. And there's really nothing that you can do about it.

So I thought about the delimma with being new and possibly getting SSL4. What if I just address it head on when I go in? What if I just tell the hiring manager ( the new manager), I can't get into a situation where I get SSL4. I need to be evaluated on my ramp up alone and only my new manager does my focal.

Move and be the new guy and get a SL4. Tough call.

This thread is such a microcosm of all that is wrong with Intel: well-meaning and capable people punished for doing the right thing and trying to get a project back on track.

Levels of management who view their job as convincing the next layer of management that their project is on track (going to transform the marketplace!), when in fact it is already irrelevant in the marketplace (or the not what customers need) AND behind schedule.

The people who perpetrate the fraud are rewarded. Those who try to actually do something that might make Intel some money get punished. In my case, it was the passive aggressive S/SL4 with no recommendations for improvement that I could tangibly address.

All the while, external competitors eat our lunch...and we eat our own.

As someone who joined Intel less than two years ago (and was ISP'd), I was blown away at how the sort of scenarios that the OP is experiencing played out on a daily basis (of course, contrary to Intel values and what people said was supposed to be happening). That sh*t wouldn't fly anywhere else I've ever worked but seemed routine to Intel lifers.

They will just change your SSL after the manager submits it. Has apparently been done before.

Start applying internally now. I would think it would open back up in late June or July or August. I've seen new reqs open up recently.

People below the VP/GM's don't know anything official right now. All hiring is on hold until Intel's 12000 goal is met. No replacements for ISP/VSP/ERP that exit. No contractors, no ICE, no nothing. So not sure how hiring could start back if no replacements. I have heard some unique skill reqs may start back in August.

That right you will be screwed anyways. It's miserable how the meritocracy works in Intel due to these bad management practices. He will make sure you get a very bad focal feedback when the new manager checks with him. I have gone through this. Any new member in any team rcg, ncg, internal or lateral hire, all get worst focal ratings and SL that year and even next year till you get closer to your new team and manager. It all sucks really. Some folks really want to work with great intentions and love their job but this management system don't let them do so. Shame on Intel it's been going on openly for so many years and still nobody is trying to change it. With such horrible practices this company can never grow.

"...better shut up and become a brown noser" - I can do that for a while. In fact, I'm sort of doing that now (as I don't have a choice) but I can't keep this up. It's wrong. Our org is way inefficient, he's hiding sh-- from management in the larger org. and he keeps causing problems with the project teams as he is inserting himself in our projects, slowing sh-- down and giving direction on issues that he knows nothing about. Honestly, it's causing a cluster f--- but the emperor has no clothes and we're not allowed to point it out. Somebody HELP!
