More than half of all adults in the United States under the age of 30 say that they do not support capitalism at this point. As older generations die off, they will eventually become the leaders of this country.

What they actually object to is Corporatism and they mis-label it capitalism. We haven't had capitalism since the Soviet-Harvard Fed took control of money when gold convertability ended in 1972. We have a centrally planned economy where interest rates for everyone are set by a government run BUT corporate owned entity. The system is corrupt because it is NOT capitalism. But I do agree with the OP's implication that we are headed into more socialism despite the future bread lines that will bring.
College debt is not a new concept. I had it. My parents had it. My kids will have it. The government make sit difficult for kids to grow up. FASFA used parents income until your 24 (unless you get married) and assumes that a parent should be I obligated to continue to support adult children....adult children ride parents medical insurance until they are 26.....really!!! Apparently being 18 qualifies as adulthood for criminal activity nd smoking! And the government wonders why no one is ready for retirement...
I would reject "capitalism" too if I were them. What exactly has capitalism done for them? They are saddled with enormous debt before they even begin their careers, then when they start their first job they face wage stagnation, excessive home prices and corporations that view them as disposable. Its not about being entitled, its about having a fair shot to own a house, have a couple kids, and find a stable job that pays a living wage (in the wealthiest country on earth). No single politician or ideology can make things right, the people must organize and collectively build a coalition to counter the influence of the plunderers and war mongers in this country.
I blame Bernie. He expanded the "entitled" demographic. At least hedge fund managers get a job before they take your money.

My niece is one of these people. She thinks success and money are evil. She's 31 and lives hand to mouth, and always will, because working hard is evil (by extrapolation). Generation of slackers.
Because they are idiots. They can't think by themselves, and believe anything their socialist professors tell them. One just need to look at Venezuela, and other countries that have tried socialism. How well is it working for them?
Those who want socialism just want to have it easy. The US didn't become what it is under socialism, but under capitalism.
The hippy's of the 60's bacame one of the largest groups of capatilists in history once they had to pay the bills.
The idealism of inexperience tends to fade with experience....once you start working hard and earning, opinions quickly change when you see others getting the same that you have without lifting a finger. Socialism is not about getting something for nothing. Socialism is about everyone contributing what they are capable of contributing to for the overall benefits of the society and being compensated with a livable wage. Socialism eliminates the "I" and focuses on the "we". Honestly the millenials are to focused on the "me" to ever have a functioning socialist society. Somebody has to work....everyone has to work to make socialism work.
We haven't had capitalism in decades. Fake money, fake stock markets, rigged interest rates, fascism and corruption running rampant. This will not end well people.
I find the millenials I know fall into 2 very different, extreme groups: Those that work very hard, and those that do not want to do anything (but don't mind getting other people to give them money). Honestly, I think it is all of these weird parenting and teaching theories that have been running out of control in the schools, parenting (and if you don't follow these new rules/theories, CPS).
Free market Capitalism (past) is good. There is price stability with low but consistent growth over time. Central bank run Crony Capitalism (present.) is bad. It's all just booms and busts with the banks playing both sides to extract money out of the people to have a sort-of legalized slavery through the mechanism of debt.
Success is not necessarily linked to hard work, this is what the young generation don't like.
The millenials are not tomorrow's trees from today's seeds. They are tomorrows helpless and hapless little socialists driven into poverty and despair from a colossal failure of the educational system that told them to just blame others for your misery, and the government will save you.
Bring back sterilization.
The under-30 crowd has been babied and coddled so much, they have no sense of what it means to earn anything. Better that it be given through protest, uber-sensitivity and grievance, and demands for free stuff. They've given up before they've even suited up and walked onto the field. The concept of winning and excelling has been stolen from them by politicians and shills who just curry for votes and not contribution. This is obviously not all of them, thus the minority of those who understand the responsibility of self-reliance. The majority of this group wants to punish the success of others as they see their hard work as communal.
Even the Pilgrims trying communal (socialist) living, but found out very early that the producers not only ended up providing for themselves, but for the lazy non-contributors as well. This is a win-lose game where eventually, everyone loses. But in fairness, kids today don't have had the confidence beaten out of them by a culture of political correctness by their parents, their schools and the the political elites that bombard them with the propaganda of elites who only prosper by blinding and deceiving the masses that will keep voting for them on the promise of comfort and free stuff. Shame...
