Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Annual rigor and purge, or pump and dump?

Wonder what your thoughts are on this. I think the purge process should be every year, and an ongoing part of business. The other option is the shock and awe of a mass purge.

There is no third option BTW, every company lays off just as every company hires. The pain cannot be avoided; it's rather the frequency and scale of that pain.

So, I would maintain it should be every year. Part of the reason this layoff is so daunting is because full rigor was left out of the focal process. It's a pay me now or pay me later thing. Best to have an annual purge that is borne of rigor, than to skip over the hard stuff and deal with catastrophe later.

Intel has created the perfect culture for it. No more cooperation, no more sharing, no more innovation, no more doing the right things right, no more hiring the best people and letting them do great things together. Just inbred selected political back stabbing on a yearly performance review cycle. Good job guys, Jack Welch would be proud.

even better, now you have to know what you want and how to measure it. no more unspecified goals and relative grading.

"Buy me like a piece of equipment and fully depreciate me after 5 years. Pay me a lump sum up front and I'll walk at the end of the contract. Better?"

33% up front, 33% at 2.5 years (based on progress to contracted goal state), 33% at completion, WITH... a 20% bonus if done on time, under budget, and with no defects.

Then we have a deal :)
