Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

For those who haven't (yet) been impacted - are you looking for work elsewhere? Networking across the company?

I have a hunch that one of my projects is going to be impacted in June. Even if I don't get laid off, the sheer stress of moving everyone around my group is going to be awful and sad. Meanwhile, I'm doing as much training as I can, meeting regularly with a few mentor-like peers, and polishing up my resume. I see what is coming to my group and it ain't going to be pretty.

I already knew what I will be doing after I leave (on Friday, April 29) back in January before even the Q4 BUM took place.

As soon as I get to Bellingham, I will be constructing a CNC Plasma cutting system for The Foundry, which is the makerspace in Bellingham. The owner will pay for the material and I will provide the labor and the design and we well split the profit.

All of this without a resume.

In addition another opporunity literially thrust itself at me. I will be doing tube amplifier repairs for a museum, which may lead me to be the sole tube amplifier repairman for all of the musicians in the area.

And my resume has not changed since I hired in at Intel in Sept, 2005.

We are at will employees which means both parts can stop employment at anytime without any reason. So yes. We signed a mutual zero loyalty contract. So I always network, I always look for jobs and I am always trying to learn new things and stay sharp. Do I want to work somewhere else? Not at the moment...

Yep - always, always, always. During my focal a few weeks ago (Successful, Grade 6, SL3 - so quite good for 9 months in), I told my manager, "I don't believe that job security exists. How can you help me build my network?" He has great ideas and has been very supportive.
