Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

what to do about life insurance

I assume if you get isp, your life insurance ends on may 30th. Anyone know what good options there are to keeping life insurance while you look for a job?

Look in to term life

Stay away from Metlife and Minnesota life. Make sure you look in to the insurance company's ratings (number score on a 100 scale not letter grade). How do I know? I was a licensed Agent with appointments in 36 states.

I think rule #1 is wrong. Sure it goes away when you and the company part ways, but it is cheaper, why pay more for outside insurance that you can just get when you part ways...

Maybe it will cost more at that time than if you got it early, but you will have saved so much money along the way, you can pay that extra and still have saved more.

My 2 cents: if you are healthy, buy your own policy, since Intel's rates are comparable. If you are not healthy or are a smoker, then keep the Intel policy (which requires you to start paying the premiums), since you do NOT need a medical checkup to keep it.

Intel paid for life insurance will end. If you are paying for insurance, it is "portable", meaning you can take it with you, but it will cost a lot more. You will probably be better getting a life insurance policy on the open market.

Most times you can continue with the group plan at a reduced level. Be sure to ask for the info from HR.
