Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Earnings Call

Observations from the call...

If you have experienced this on the inside: a massive effort is spent preparing the executives for this live call. Still, smart people are in the room ready to provide the "answers" for the tough questions. The executives are arrogant and have gotten to the top by BS'ing so they don't often get flustered. So it was fun to hear the panic from the new know-nothing "CFO".

The Scot said nothing. Quite a change.

They used the words " cost of supply" 47 times but no one in the company knows what this is.

No layoffs, but they are letting people go quietly to avoid reporting requirements.

On the earnings slide, where every BU is losing money, look at headquarters. Despite the spin about cutting costs, HQ is a bloated mass of useless people dragging down the company.

The bloating is clearly evident in most BUs and most staff groups. COP needs to be more like XOM who staff for the lows and use contractors to fill in thehighs. It is a travesty how managers were allowed to build their empires and pump up their SGL because they had more layers and budgets. The poor people that suffered were the new hires, external hires and folk forced into early retirement because of the irresponsible hiring done since the split. And most of these managers that overhired and built huge empires are still with the company!

I am in one of the BU's and I look around and see people hanging out doing nothing. Our BU cut a whopping 8 percent last year. That's all. My spouse works in HQ and that group cut over 50%. I don't get where people say the BU's do all the cutting. I just isn't true in every BU. Ask yourself how many people got cut from Indonesia or Australia, or Canada. The "B" in BU stands for Bloated.

HQ is very bloated while the business units do a lot of the cutting. Meanwhile it's the business units that bring in the money. Go figure
