Managers are advised not to make any suggestion on employee VSP decision. If your manager is suggesting something; he is not following HR guidelines.

I am elegible for VSP as well and was told aftercalling the VSP number that managers are notified only a week after you accept the VSP. Did your manager already know you received the VSP? I am not sure about that.

In this job market, I would not take VSP unless you have another definite job or career/life plans waiting in the wings. Jobs are hard to come by.

I don't trust any of these managers plus they may see the boot before you do. In this environment the best thing to do is call all your contacts outside Intel and move out of Intel ASAP.

If a person takes VSP, the manager loses the headcount and can't rehire in this environment. So it's in their best interest to get you to stay.

I'd like to know more about this talking points slide. I was VSP eligible and met with my manager. I didn't expect her to make any recommendation buy she did tell me that the project I'm working on is important to Intel and that I'm doing well and she hate to lose me (or something like that). Made me feel better at least since I felt like I have been doing good work for the past several year .

I was urged not to take VSP last year by manager, someone who is a corporate officer. He repeated many times during my 1:1 that he hoped I would NOT take it.

Needless to mention, I was affected by the layoffs this past Monday morning.

Moral of the story for me: you are kept "only" as long as you are needed.

I feel you can not look back and blame anyone else if this years VSP option turns out to be an ISP next year. However, VSP is only an option if you truly know that you are marketable elsewhere. In this situation, if there are many other people like yourself being shown the door, leaving now means having to compete with them for whatever is available.

I feel that VSP will continue to be a norm here. The best thing to do might be to have something ready around the end of the year and then be prepared. If need be utilize it. In this environment, it is essential to be prepared, whether you are a high performer or not.

last year, vsp window was open as reviews were given and closed after reviews were over.

vsp was open to everyone that did not have two EE or O during the last 3 years or was retirement eligible. Managers were trained beforehand to give "retention" messages during review delivery to URM and diversity people.

If what your saying is true, it sounds like your manager wants you to stay, which is always a good thing. If you have a feeling that he has your best interests at heart, maybe you should follow his advice.

This is interesting news, I basically got an email when I asked about my VSP to my manager that "he values my skills and would like me to stay with Intel, but that the decision is mine and only mine" He was even kind enough to bold and underline "mine and only mine"

And here I thought he was being honest.

can you trust his intentions further? for any ISP, which may not allow you to re-hire to Intel.

With VSP you may not be able to claim unemployment insurance!!! Ask them for more!

I'm told that managers are NOT allowed to sway a person's choice one way or the other. They aren't supposed to say much on the topic.

Managers cannot offer any guidance on accepting or rejecting VSP.

Take it and run. This VSP package offer will never be this good again... period. (str8 from Taylors mouth)

Sinking ship and anybody that knows how anything works is leaving or forced out.

Give me your VSP, I'll take it for you!

Typically, a VSP means they want you gone, but these directives seem to be coming from BK's inner circle's misapplication of some big data application. So yes, your boss may know more, but get any and everything you can in writing, and start looking elsewhere.

Check the Oregonian for info on the difference between the VSP and ISP. You can determine how good the deal is based on that. The Oregonian hasn't been wrong yet.

I was also offered VSP and told not to take it unless I was already planning to leave Intel, which I was not currently planning to do. However, I am worried about the VSPs converting into ISPs.. I'm a technical female, on the younger side of employees. Got VSP because of time in grade.

There's a management talking-points slide out there where it states that they must meet with all VSP-eligible (yes, they know who you are now) employees by May 9th and at that meeting they are to give you either a "stay" or " seriously consider it" message depending on how mission-critical your work is, if you play into the diversity equation, or one other criteria which I can't currently recall. I' m actually quite looking forward to that meeting to see what card my manager plays...I'll bet it's the first but he's a straight shooter and after I hear his political take, I'll dig in to hear the real message, I hope.

If I were you, I won't take VSP now but start looking for a job. Wait till they give you ISP next year then you take the money with you to go to the new job

I would strongly consider taking the VSP if you are financially sound to do it. On the other side, you may want to take a risk and stay with the goal in mind to find another job this year before you get laid off. Anybody who does not take VSP this year are likely targets for layoff after next focal. As far as performance, it does not matter anymore since the focal paperwork will be doctored to make you look like a poor performer in order to meet company objectives.

Do you trust your manager? Maybe they know something you don't.. it really depends on your relationship. If my husband's manager told him not to take it, he would listen, but his manager is a really down to earth and good guy.

He's convincing you to stay? Get it in writing. Other wise make your own decision

I would never take a VSP. That's crazy. Let them walk you out later but who wants to go unemployed right now. I declined two VSP's in the past.

of course they are, they're thinking "if I can get this person to stay I can use them as my low performer in Focal next year so I don't have to impact the rest of my higher performer staff and it won't be hard on me to do it" :( beware...

Hard to say just based on that statement. Would need more info like age, sex, marital status, ethnicity, grade level, years at Intel, etc to assess if you "need" to stay or not.

your manager is playing with fire.. he/she has no control of future actions if they decide to covert VSP into ISP and you will be affected..
