Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Murthy...

Fellow coworkers. This guy was literally fired from his old company. Check the statement from the company. "We moved to a single president model, Murthy's partner was the clear choice as president, Murthy was offered a lower position in the company"

This is how you fire execs. No settlement, no severance, etc.

This guy being such badly damaged goods getting hired as #2 at intel and shaking off execs and laying off 12k employees... Says a lot about our company.

Namely:

1) We can't hire succesful execs bc we suck so bad and have to hire damaged goods

2) Ppl that are fired from our underdog competitors can just come and roam freely in their teams. In other words we have no respect for long time employees of our own.

Raise your voice, what's being done here is evil and fundamentally hurting the company. And no I was not ISPd.

Besides all the cash and stock, he gets 5 weeks vacation? Even he has to go home to India every year. That's really motivating for the underlings working their butts off to make his EB target at year end.

Why in the hell don't they fire managers? Instead they fire all the people doing the work and leave the fat in management who do absolutely freaking nothing. Especially in IT !!

Have been retired from Intel for several years now but kept close in touch with my peers. It is so true, one of the comments said; there are wolf packs that they move together, upward mostly, and watch each others backs. Several I know in the GSS, and IT. Still there after all these years and mostly collect their paychecks, 'work' from home several times a week.. It will be interesting to see if they will be ISP'd. My bet is not, because their managers are the same.. Their second/third level managers are typically off site (meaning located on the same campus), so they don't know the real story. Reading the stories here breaks my heart. But someone said, there is life after Intel, and there is! Luckily, economy is doing well right now and those who are ISP'd should have no problem landing another job soon. All the best and Good luck!!

@dvd It's terrible but eventually things come around. When they finally realize work isn't getting done because the worker bee was ISPd, they will have to identify gaps, reprioritize projects and do a new ZBB. Maybe some good will come of it for the surviving team members.

@yff you are absolutely right. In our team there is one guy who is very close to the manager. All he does is create power points and collects status for the others and does report out. One of the guys who quietly does most of the work got ISP and was walked out. The manager is so stupid he has no idea who does the work.

If BK and Murthy want to improve Intel they need to look deeper into what happens deep inside the company and cut the fat in the middle. There is no point in cleaning the top and the bottom layers of the company. The cesspool of middle managers need to be cleaned out first.

@yff - you're describing the dirty little secret at Intel. It's happening all over the place and in all groups. it's easy for someone to sit back ad go un-noticed or for someone to pretend to be busy.

no longer @ Intel but man although I feel really, really bad about people loosing their job I truly believe this was needed and possibly even more needed. There are so many people not lifting a finger @Intel and most claim they are working their behind off. I know two friends that haven't had a project for over a year and they still get SSL2 and 3 from their buddy manager and then see hardest working person get booted. In each group there are a few that work hard but most are laid back, WFH, check email couple times a day and some even run their other businesses while working there. Its like retirement home. Sorry to say that but its true.

From my experience at Qualcomm, now at Intel (questioning my self here...) the GOOD thing about Murty is he is brutal business oriented micro manager that eats VPs for lunch, BAD thing about Murty is he is brutal business oriented micro manager that eats VPs for lunch. I am not surprised the two execs left when he came on as there boss. But what I see at Intel it has like 2X the number of people doing the same things we did at Qualcomm and if I see this I am sure Murty does. So maybe for a company with a cash machine PC biz in a 10% decline what it needs is brutal business oriented micro manager that eats VPs for lunch. I predict Intel groups under him will be 25% smaller and have all there headcount growth in India, that is what he engineered at Qualcomm. Intel even hired the former Qualcomm India site manager to run its PC chip engineering so you know thats coming.

He is just a fall guy; the present predicament of Intel is primarily due to Krazyain, their butt-nosed HR headm the pot belly stump of the legal dept head and few other ki*ss-ass at the top.

Agree with previous reply. He seems to be just a cold blooded hitman. the orders came from his higher management.

It's sad but the restructuring was going to happen no matter what. This new guy is just the hit man. He may not even have a clue about strategy just the face for laid off people to be angry at. IMO
