The employees in Bangalore and China are certainly paid lesser when you convert to $. Just getting this straight, since everyone thinks they are replaced by lower wage workers. I know coz' of my work.

H1B abuse is by Tata, Infosys and Wipro "consulting firms"....not US companies.
May the feds should give priority to US companies instead of this stupid "H1B lottery" system.
For people who think H1bs work for $60-$70k, I'm H1b with 8 years exp, got hired last year at Intel with $135k base pay.(add $10k Intel will spend on my visa renewal and all)
There is a difference between h1b from a consulting company and direct hire by these big corporations.
H1Bs get paid less. They are stuck and have no negotiating power. If they are unlucky enough to be in the Indian queue, they are in a tough spot.
Who wins in that situation? Only the company. I have a lot of empathy for H1Bs.
H1B and fired? Maybe you own a home because you have lived here for years and years? Hey and your wife has a great job she loves bug her Visa is based on yours. You get fired and have 2 weeks to leave the country. Awful.

The beauty of SW business at least in California is, if you pay 75k$ or more per year, no overtime pay required. Combine that with H1B and you have magic formula. Do you think Mr. Facebook is asking more H1Bs out of goodness of his heart...
I did not take lesser. I was an h1b with a BS and PhD in CS from a top school in the US. I wanted +100k after graduation or would go somewhere else. I did not get a raise when I got my GC either! H1-B wages are tightly regulated to match average wages. It's true some companies abuse the H1-B program but not all. Most companies only hire H1B with a MS or Ph, given that very few Americans want to study a PhD. Without trying to offend anyone but you guys need to stop making excuses... stop blaming others for your own fate. Go to grad school, keep learning, work harder and life will look way different.
I worked with 3 H1B visa holders, all Indian, at a big tech company.
ALL of them had master's degrees in computer science from a US university.
NONE of them could program better than me, an American with a Bachelor's from a state university.
Oh, and they were all in QA.
H1B visas were to fill positions where you could NOT find an employee in the US. You're telling me you can't find a US citizen or green card holder with a Bachelor's degree to do QA?
Something's wrong with our H1B visa problem. Just like we are letting Mexico export its poverty to the US, we are letting India export its poverty here.
Hint - try getting a job in India as a US citizen, or a job as an illegal immigrant in Mexico.
Salaries are negotiable. No matter who you are, or race, gender, etc your salary can be significantly different from your counterpart. It all depends on what was negotiated. It is a known fact an H1b offer will come in much lower and if the person doesn't have negotiation skills that's what they will agree to. It's not discrimination. Just good career management and negotiation skills
People buy stuff made in China which devastated the manufacturing industry and caused massive layoffs. The reality of capitalism is that a corporation has to be greedy - it exists to make profit. Before the 80's the workers got a share of the profit. After the supply side economics / trickle down magic , all the gains have gone to top 1% while others were kept busy in culture war issues. Too busy fighting over the crumbs under the table to realize that there is dinner above.
No win post. Of course H1B's are going to say they get paid the same and others want to believe they are paid less (which by the way I believe also in general). Sure there are accept ions to everything.
Point is greedy corporations have created a supply of labor from foreign country's. The are able to come to grad schools here and profit. Meanwhile US students are racking up student loans in undergrad before they can even get to a grad program. Now that's F'd up.
h1bs are losers in a lost world
Guys H1Bs are preferred because they can't change job easily even sometimes internally too... " as job as to match to their's H1B labor condition application. Also it affect their further Green card processing too. Hence they stick to the same place/seat/job everything until they get their GC, it will be couple years. Because of this GC incentive, they don't ask raise/role/etc questions... Hence less staff turnover and stability to their management.

It is the US wage suppression for the US tech worker that has occurred due to a over saturated US tech labor market. There is no shortage of STEM workers with BS or MS. Supply and demand.
LOL, if you believe that you are an idiot. Once an H1B get's the green card, they typically get a 20% raise. Just ask around and you'll see.
What does Infosys/TCS/Wipro have anything to do with Intel employee and layoff? Also, whoever is paying the regular rate to Infosys/TCS/Wipro can use the same rate to hire a US citizen. I don't see how H1B's have any competitive advantage when it comes to the salary they're willing to accept. Lastly, when you hire a contractor to work on your home, do you compare the bids and seriously consider the lowest bid? If so, why shouldn't the same concept apply to corporations hiring people? If someone is willing to work for less, why can't you? What makes you think your large house and fancy life style is your birth right?
the problem is not with H1B....the problem is how it is used by Infosys/TCS/Wipro ....they apply for this H1Bs train them and send them to customers at "consultants" charging the H1B salaries but dont really pay the employees the same...this is how they undercut the US employees.... why do you think Infosys/TCS/Wipro get all the H1B visas..... even Infosys Narayan Murthy said these companies work like immigration agencies...... there are other so called "services and consultancy companies" doing all these things..
