Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

How do they do it? Call? Conference with HR?

How does the actual act of communicating that you've been laid off happen? Do they call you in a conference room? If yes, who is there?

What do they tell you?

How long does it take?

Thank you?

It's a meeting in a conference room that has been converted to an HR room by adding large signs and has one or two security guards nearby in the hall. Your manager and HR present in some way (depending on co-location, etc.). You know it when you approach the room, there's no question.

I had to call each of my employees with HR on the line and read a script. Then I turned it over to HR to tell them about separation, benefits etc. At large sites HR would invite them to a conference room for a meeting and i'd be on the speaker phone. Surprise! It was not fun.

Yes, 1:1 with Manager, HR rep is there. Rep runs meeting gives papers and cloth shopping bag, then goes with you and manager to cube. Rep takes laptop and manager walks you to door. Oregon version. Not said, but security is close by and on call just in case.

so much for with 'dignity and compassion' per BK .... a security guard? 5 minutes to clean your desk with a guard and your manager watching, is that really necessary? whats so dignified about that? they are giving you all the dignity they'd give a thief.

1:1 with your manager and HR, it is usually scheduled after hours

Depends, but most of what I've seen is your manager sets up a 1:1. Either the HR rep meets you there or your manager takes you to another location where the HR rep is (closed room, blocked windows, security guard, etc.).
