Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Not taking VSP does not equal later layoff!

VSP is totally optional. Lots of negativity on this site saying you'll go down later. Not (historically) true. I've been with intel 16 yrs; was offered VSP in 2014 but did not take it, and was not offered VSP this year. No chance of ISP thus year given performance.

I got SSL5 in 2015 focal due to I was on Leave of Absence (that was my manager's explanation so unfortunately I did understand what was the impact for SSL5 in my future and how this was going to affect my carrer at Intel and I did not complain), then on May 2015 I got ISP and I was chosen because I got that SSL5, but I was pregnant so Legal Dpt decides to remove me from that list, and now I got VSP which offers the same package that was offered last year with ISP and I feel very sad because I have been working several years at Intel but SSL5 will target me again if I reject the offer since they usually take in consideration this rate for 3 prev years, but they do not care if you were succesful, and they do not care what you have done for the company, this sucks

The reasons people received VSPs in the past were very different - they were based on group/ project/ site closures. This time it is very different. A succession of SL3s is what it takes to get a VSP. Unless you can turn it into either an SL2 or SL1, the red target painted on your forehead will not change.

This is a huge inflection point for Intel. This is not the same company that most of us had once joined. The exec class does not believe in innovation and market expansion anymore. This is the age of desperate mergers, acquisitions and mass layoffs - as what all those old guard companies like P&G, J&J, GE and IBM had been doing for decades now. So, while there is no reason for fear mongering, there is wisdom in reasoning that once a target, your status as a target will not change, unless you promote yourself according to a set schedule. This gets very tricky after grade 9 for most. PE positions are awarded in proportion to the group revenues and through a multi year process of vetting through PE promotion committees. So, there is a natural limit to how long one could be working for Intel. Only way one learns these facts is through the grapevine.

It should be taken with understanding that most folks on here are freshly axed and under tremendous stress. That said, I was offered VSP in 2013 but declined, almost up again this year save for an EE rating last year.

It's true, Intel is not as secure as it once was, it's razor-edged meritocracy with a twist of politics.

Too many posts on this site are submitted by morons and low life for reasons not very clear to me. Some were probably laid off by Intel before and now they are trying to do harm to Intel in a pervert way. What they do not understand that them spreading lies here is not going to harm Intel but it may scare some unsophisticated people into making wrong decisions.

There's a lot of crap on this site to be sure but a lot is informative, even the ugly stories. The new intel is upon us just acknowledge that much. Good ole days been gone but no one wanted to see until this. Its sad. Rest in peace Andy Grove and intel inside. A new day full of H1B's.

Calling people losers and a-holes and fear-mo getting is NOT telling people to be smart, and is not fact-based. I'm giving facts, which people can at least assess with intelligence vs the emotion-driven posts that are being widely circulated here.

This site is simply warning others of the possibility and the work climate. Count yourself lucky don't think it can't happen to you though. Warning others to be smart is realistic not negativaty.
