The other way to interpret eau's rebuttal is that if there is rampant cheating on tests to "earn" a highly sought after degree, then those who have cheated do not really have the knowledge that is presumed sufficient for that degree. Hence, those earning the degree fraudulently have:

1. Not earned the degree through there own work and merit

2. Are then less qualified for the workplace, and

3. Are more likely to cheat in the workplace

Vis a vis... when sufficient masses of people are hired over many years on the premise that their degrees are valid, you end up with an under-qualified workforce that cannot compete effectively in the marketplace. Some could say this IS happening to Intel.

Congress isn't going to listen to you - they're on the Intel payroll (and other companies like them). What is needed is true campaign reform - ie no donation from anyone.

H1B visa's are cheaper, they have a more recent education (as do RCGs) and work harder. As in they are willing to work 24/7 spending less time with family (they will hire nanny to raise the kids). Intel (and companies like intel) are unwilling to train current workers to update their education.

Why should they when they have the H1B visa option. Tell congress to stop the H1B visa program and companies will have no choice but to rely on American workers.

I don't blame any of the H1B visa on the recipients. If I were in their place I would be utilizing it as well.

As someone who managed to work at intel for 40 years before retiring on my own accord. Intel made policy changes about 15-20 years ago and decided to hire mostly masters/phd's. This dried up the pool of US graduates that woul meet qualifications. The reason is most H1B's coming to this country are from wealthy families that could

Afford extended education unlike US students burdened by school loans for a bachelor's degree. Additionally intel severely limited the hiring of technicians and used RCG's ( most RCG's are now H1B's. I saw this happen over time and watched Intel's staffing change to mostly foreign born. They even changed cafe menus to reflect this. This means many H1B's will be hit by layoffs too, but it doesn't excuse Intel's policy to exploit foreign workers at the expense of US citizens. Oh and did I mention they expect these workers to average 12 hour workdays

It's sad that people got laid off and it's frustrating that there's no straight answer or transparency. But if someone feels like they have zeroed in on the reason, and it's because of an Indian employee who violated Intel's Code of Conduct, then go ahead and report them.

So one must take such academic claims with a very large pinch of salt.

Seeing the amount of racism and general hatred for employees with H-1B work authorization has been a real eye-opener. There's even posts claiming fraud on Intel's part (!)

I guess they don't realize that a law firm handles all the paperwork and they do a lot of vetting before Intel hands out offers to foreign nationals. Never in a million years had I though management incompetence leading up to the layoffs would be ignored, and instead the focus would be on how the fault lies with a fraction of the Intel workforce that happens to be from India.
