Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

The latest emission from Crashin'Itch

Let's see, according to Crashin'Itch, Intel will focus on 3 areas of IoT:

  1. Autonomous vehicles. Well, this is certainly a burgeoning market segment, sure to pull Intel from it's funk, like tomorrow.

  2. Industrial. I spent a good bit of my career in embedded. There's not billions of units there.

  3. Retail. What does this even mean? Point of sale? Marketing household gizmos? GPS in your undershorts?

Color me severely underwhelmed. It's time for Crashin'Itch to go. He has had his 3 years of infamy.

I rather enjoyed that in the list of assets and advantages that intel has, "our people" was not one of them.

How f---ing tone deaf does one have to be?

"It was '09 when Intel declared that IoT would be a $15B business by 2015."

This year that hot seat is occupied by FPGA. Seems like some PR company is getting paid top dollars to come up with planetary diagrams that capture BK's buzzwords. This email blast today is just sickening - even as most people are still dealing with the shock and awe of losing jobs suddenly, this guy has the gall to lack of remorse to go on a publicity blast.

The virtuous cycle BK is not speaking openly is this - acquire, layoff, sell of scrap, repeat.

Crashin'Itch was a manufacturing individual contributor back in the days when Ford, Bosch, et al put Intel through the wringer with "zero defects". Either he doesn't have a clue or his memory is defective.

Does Intel really want to go down the path of "Zero Defects"? Intel got out of Automotive in early 2000's because Zero Defect was way too costly (especially in engineering and manufacturing overhead). Autonomous cars while a blip now, can grow, but adoption will be very slow do to cost to the consumer.

It was '09 when Intel declared that IoT would be a $15B business by 2015. Well, IoT was @ $2.5B. Hell of a miss, no? And IoT has been carved up, re-amalgamated, carved up again, realigned, segmented, re-purposed, and reconstituted so many times, there's no way to really know what the business is really doing.
