It's a little odd that we don't see many posts about VSP on here. Does that mean that there were not many VSPs given? the criteria of four consecutive SSL3 and more than 2x median in grade level seems very tight. Maybe it's the accurate criteria and in fact not many VSPs were given. Any thoughts?

Will there be more people offered VSP? Based on the criteria above I should have had the option and I desperately want it! 2 of my coworkers in IT were just walked out. THIS SUCKS!

I am afraid to say that is no longer "normal". the game has changed. Apparently the company wants us to "grow" and "advance". However, when you say you want a promotion, they tell you there has to be a business need, even if you are capable of functioning at the next level.....
So, the net effect will be people will become more obsessed/aggressive about their careers and put Intel at the second place. this will accomplish focus on people's careers rather than execution, innovation, and all the good things the management says wants us to do.
I am already changing my mindset. I am not thinking if I need to do a certain project because it's critical for intel and my expertise are needed. I am more thinking which project gives me better chance of meeting criteria for the next grade level.
this is sad.
That's a vast majority of the companys engineers. It's normal to stay at a gr7 or 8 for the rest of your career this makes no sense
The requirements for VSP:
Which employees are eligible for this VSP?
Employees are eligible for this VSP if they do not work in Intel Security Group and have
had: (1) A Successful (or below Successful) rating for all Focal cycles in which they were
rated between 2013 and 2016; and (2) have not received a stock share level 1 or 2; and
(3) their time in grade is one standard deviation higher than the median time in grade for
their grade in their business group.
Certain exclusions apply. If you did not receive notification of eligibility, you are not eligible
to participate.
To me, it seems that the VSP is almost a an ISP targeted to specific folks who have been in the same positions for many years. I was hoping it were given to most people (like in 2014) but I was definitely proven wrong.
It seems the VSP was offered only to a very select few. I know of many, myself included, that would love to have had the opportunity to take the VSP. But it wasn't offered. At least last year, the VSP was more widely spread to people. I think the criteria to not be included was being a high performer at least 2 out of the 3 most current focal reviews. If they want to reach their numbers more easily, I am sure there would be a lot more people wanting to take it this year.
Assuming a normal distribution, the time in grade > mean + 1 std dev would approximately cover about 15% of the people in that grade. If you take away the ISPs (~ 3%) then the VSPs would account for 12 % of company. Past experience indicate that very few employees take VSP (less than 1% of those offered). There will more be some more (drastic !) cuts to meet the 12k.
I got one. Have 22 years, and about 5 yrs as a 57, S and SSL3's for many years. Still get loads of service recognitions and fix sh-- that nobody wants to tackle in the middle of the night (shift 4). Looks like time to get outta dodge. There's nothing left to do in a dead factory.

Number, but the criteria you stated is essentially correct - many years of only S SSL 3, and 1 std dev above the mean time in grade.
