I work in TD and let me tell you, there is a ton of dead weight floating around. People writing worthless good catches. Fluff projects that don't contribute to anything except a focal bullet. How long until Intel has to get rid of people who would rather take breaks than fix our tools. Tool owners with phds and masters degrees who pawn problems onto technicians. That's why Intel is restructuring, there is too many people who, albeit, are talented in their own way but can't cut mustard. I feel bad for the ones who did so well their whole career to have one bad year ruin it all. I don't think Intel should only go back a few years.

Mass layoffs are not an effective way to eliminate the dead weight you are describing. It requires serious attention from all levels of management; people willing to make difficult decisions continuously. Those people left at Intel will hear in the coming months of the people who finally got caught in the the net who deserved it, but they will also remember very clearly the people in their own team or people with whom they've worked closely who were led out the door for all the wrong reasons. Until Intel gets serious about reforming its management structure the layoffs will continue to the detriment of the company.
Hard IP team owns crown for most dead weight. No other group compare to it. DDR team is worst with > 200 headcount. Other companies it is max around 30.
Agree with poster. A lot of dead weight. I hope Intel doesn't just get rid of the white male dead weight. They preach diversity well I hope they are diverse on who they get rid of. Women, h1b included. Not just oldies
And if we have to go through this again like we did in 2014. Andy Bryant needs to get off his ars and get rid of BK
That PhD hiring is just a ploy to eliminate domestic candidates
m6ps. People like you see dead weight everywhere. Look in the mirror and see some more.
The dead weight begins at the top with BK and ends all the way down to your direct supervisor. This company is top heavy with more VP's and middle management doing diddley squat. Those of us at the Technician level make pennies on the dollar compared to the TOP HEAVY FAT in this company.
Facts are it is a business. And it got fat while the getting was good. Now that it needs to operate on a normal budget it needs to cull probably 75% of it's staff. Year over year it will lay off the older crowd and hire in new people. And it really does need to do that. The unfortunate issue is that trying to do that strategically would cost more than it would save, and probably fail anyway. So instead they will just do it blood letting style. just keep laying off people for 5-10 years and replace the whole workforce. They can hope that some of the people they hire will be worth keeping, but if not, they can just lay them off too.
OP if you were in some sites with less than 500 people, you would be fired.
Preach it! thank you! a lot of us feel the same way.
Amen to that
