Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

There are a lot of black suits walking around OR sites today! Training rooms and CRs that say RESERVED and security standing at the doors. Not sure if the training rooms are being used for group layoffs or what. You can see tissues in various reserved rooms. Employee mood is a bit freaked out. Lots of chatter inside and out about the environment recently.

Mine was in a conference room. Not sure if perhaps BUM rooms are used in some locations. In my (now old) location, there are a bunch of rooms with paper over the windows that were reserved for all day. Took 15-20 minutes and i'll receive the package in the mail which will have a date to sign and return by. I had time to go back to my desk (with an escort) to get my things together and say goodbye. Wish I'd sent a good-bye email to others but I took an export of my contacts so should have most email addresses that i need. Plenty of time to do that now! Package was good so good riddance to Intel.

Seems very draconian this time around. Guess BK is full of sh-- with the dignity stuff.. seems to be new Intel method of operation. I was caught in last years ISP. We were notified ( as I remember ) about 4 weeks before we had to walk out the door. My exit was widely known, and I had time to set up some training sessions to dump several years of experience on those who would take over my responsibilities ( yeah right ). I even had a retirement lunch. Too bad Intel management has turned so evil and insensitive.

After 20+ years I got walked yesterday. It was kind of weird; they gave me an involuntary retirement package. (i'm not complaining; I know there are a lot of people who are going through tougher times). The scary part is the last part of my exit interview was done in a large BUM room with 20+ cubicles set up for meetings. I was the only one in there at the time. I can only assume they are setting up for a huge number of ISP today. You don't put the cubes up if you aren't going to use them.

BUM room is the modern day gas chamber....they execute your soul and self worth

-nxs, don't the other two "269 in FM" threads on this site say that the 269 is only ISP but that more will be VSP and ERP?

ppl in FM can you kindly keep this forum updated on what you see? Intel said to press that they are only eliminating 269 at FM yet that seems low if what others are saying about being processed through the BUM rooms as though there is an assembly line...it doesn't make sense, either Intel is telling press inaccurate number so as to insulate themselves or there's not that many people being impacted? I believe the former...from what these posts say, FM is being hit hard but Intel claiming number to be only 269. Best wishes to all...

I think it's very appropriate to send an email saying goodbye to colleagues and provide them with your contact information. If your manager scheduled you for an early morning meeting, reschedule it! I did that and I've set up a coffee with a few close friends who will walk me The Green Mile to my bum room. They want this to be as invisible as possible. Not going to let them do that to me. I would have gladly have taken VSP after hearing what the terms have been for others. But since they've label be a poor performer with my successful rating and level 5 stock I've got no choice. I do have some control over I respond to the insult.

well said etx. always tend to have a plan B. layoff seems to be a norm at intel, i might be able to survive for the next 10 years. but not for the next 20 years. so I'm working part time to build my insurance business. i dun wan to be controlled by the employer. how many can consistently promote or outperform every 3 years? i just know I'm not the one.

Somehow being waked out f the building after 16 years of work with Intel hardly seems fitting of the "respect and dignity" BK and Richard Taylor mentions in their many communications. No chance to say good by to fellow co-workers I've spent a great portion of the day with, no opportunity to take a look around to remember the good memories. Instead my last moments of my career are comprised of my manager walking me to my cube to grab my belongings and being shown the door.

My advise to anyone that thinks or even doesn't think they will be impacted this month. Grab you list of contacts now so you can contact your fellow workers after you're shown the door. While at this point I'm not too concerned for any of my projects that might have a difficult transition because of Intel's lack of planning I do feel sorry and concerned for my former co-workers that will be put in the spot of trying to carry on with projects that they haven't been given proper info on. Not to mention the impression this will sure to leave on the many vendors who in attempt to contact me for projects I was working with them to have their emails bounce back to them as undeliverable.

I just got summoned to a 1:1 in a bum room tomorrow afternoon. I am trying to decide how many of my soon to be former coworkers to send goodbye messages to, or if that's even appropriate.

Is this what BK meant "with upmost respect?"

In RA1 (Hillsboro campus) infront of the Intel store, there is a conference room and it was guarded by a security with "reserved for HR" tag. I could not see what is going on inside as it was blocked. Hopefully it is not the room for this purpose. Amazing things happen with Intel inside! (= Layoff).

In FM5, there are training rooms in the first floor which are bigger than conference rooms. I saw that cubes were set up in those rooms. Outside, there was a notice that the training scheduled for today was cancelled. I also saw a security guard sitting outside that room when I went to work this morning. However, when I came down to get coffee at around 10, he was not longer there. There is also a conference room in the lobby which was blocked and a note outside that it was booked for the day. I can only assume that this was also used for handing ISPs.

I was a painful sight and I absolutely felt like they were made to arrive in a line and being fired literally. It must have been a very humiliating experience. It just gave me shivers . I just want to become financially independent and stop working for others so that I don't get to experience such a day.
