Anyone hear this rumor? Sounds like they want to keep people from running off before they make the move. I want to take VSP if that's the case. No trust of this company. They have shown their true colors.

Google will starting using ARM chips as soon as THIS year.
ARM is hardly a contender in the datacenter, at least not in the foreseeable future. Hell, even ARM is not using ARM CPU's in their datacenters, they're using Intel like everyone else. I know that because I was previously at ARM but have recently changed to Intel. Turned out to be probably not so wise after all, but let's see..
Agree with rss. Intel stopped being a growth company ~2000ish, missed phones and tablets, and the disruption from ARM in these newer "good enough" compute devices has been increasing steadily for the last 8+ yrs. This is without ARM going after Intel's near monopoly market in servers... and they will, with the help of Google and others. And TSMC is catching up. And Intel's cadence schedule is slipping.
It may be a stretch to say "majority" of the business in 5 years but there will be a good market share loss. Think about it if China is the growth market and there is a down turn add to that the fact that its just China and they will do whatever it takes to use their own labor and resources to monopolize. They are doing it in the airplane industry also. Boeing will be faced with similar situation within the next several years because of airplane manufacturers entering the market. Don't wear too much of those rose colored intel inside glasses.

The wife and I were looking at buying a house here in the area. With all of this mess my resume has been sent to Texas! I am sick of this expensive assstate and the uncertain future of my career here.
Based on that news some of the DCG will not be offered relocation or VSP yet they making us believe so. Start looking for another company to work at -

iuz - exactly what I heard through the grapevine. Wish we can tell all so they are not shellshocked real soon. This is just plain wrong but people have to listen careful and read between the lines.
They did not say the whole DCG team will be relocated. You had to listen carefully. They said they would have the opportunity. If you believe the managers at Dupont, they were told something else. You have to inform your manager if you are willing to relocate. Your manager has to 'grade' your value to Intel. If your manager grades you high enough value, you will get the relocation offer. The managers have been told it is about a 25% number. If you have been to Oregon (JF5), you have seen they do not have the room to place all of the Dupont folks and labs there.
DCG is not safe. Intel will lose the majority of the datacenter business to ARM and Chinese chips within 5 years. Expect massive downsizing there.
How many are the DCG team in Dupont? I thought the site was reduced to 300+ last years round of consolidation.
I would think most DCG people be safe for the longer term at Hillsboro? Seems like the company is investing in that for the foreseeable future.
Some people have to go where the job is at least in the short term. Don't buy a house though! Say give it a year or two and then figure out if its worth the investment.
There are no high paying jobs in Oregon other than Intel. Once you are laid off while you are there, be prepared to fund your trip back yourself.
Moving to Oregon is a step back in the pay since there is state tax here.. I would say people from DuPont should stay in Washington...also homes are cray high in Oregon... Why suffer here.. When the chances of Intel laying you off again next year is so damn high
The whole DCG team will be be given the option...however many will not take the relocation since they have family and friends there...also I have heads people already contacting Amazon and Microsoft and moving there after taking the vsp
Who would want to go to Hillsboro anyway? Seriously would you buy realestate there? With Intel circling the drain, you'd be a moron to do it. IMO.
