Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Any other Irish on here? Any news?

With no timeline and no information for Europe it is getting very frustrating. Any news on Shannon Ireland? With less than 500 employees we are below the threshold for site closure. We also close enough to Leixlip which has 4000 or so.

We really are cheap. Looking at some of the salaries posted here we are getting 1/2 what we would get in the US. Plus the government gives Intel big grants.

lol isnt this ironic as all get out.

Intel is a USA company. They don't hire USA workers by starting cheaper labor branches outside the USA.

(no disrespect to my Irish friends, you are as good as anyone). And then the people most likely to be protected against layoffs are those people outside the USA.

LOL. You just cannot make this stuff up.

I was told unofficially that in Ireland at least you cannot be laid off if you have a successful rating (regardless of stock level ) because you would never have received any documentation to show you were failing in your job , the Irish labour court would have a field day if Intel tried it.

Indeed even with an IR rating I think they might kind of "suggest" you would want to take a VSP, which is all anyone in Ireland will get anyway (VSP). I know of a ton of people here who are just praying(I am myself) VSP is an option as again I heard it's 5 weeks pay plus 2 statutory so you're going to have a sizeable chunk of people looking at 2 years pay. Tech sector is very hot at the moment also so good time to make a jump. (I also know some with young kids who are fearful as redundancy could come through project cancellations etc.. so it all ain't rosy) Feel so bad for some of the US guys I soldiered with, they did not deserve this bullshit.
