More than you can imagine - increased workload, lack of passdowns, very poor morale. Those things alone are a huge challenge.
I left a few years ago and started my own business, I am much happier than I ever was at Intel. It did take a couple months to adjust, found myself having recurring dreams that I was missing deliverables or late to meetings which finally subsided - you just have that feeling that you are supposed to be at work but you're not, it's a strange feeling but it does dissipate. My heart palpitations that had existed for about 6 years prior ceased as well. I liken the post-Intel adjustment to phantom syndrome, where if you lose a limb, your brain and body think the limb is still there but once the brain realizes its gone, your body compensates accordingly. Life is amazing outside of Intel, don't lose hope! Best wishes to you on your endeavors....
Do more with less, that's how it's always been there.
It will definitely take a long time to recover. A super heavy workload will fall on those remaining, so good chance those employees will get a bad review next year due to inability to do all the work.
