Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Is there a life outside Intel and would it be at least equivalent instead of having to sacrifice pay or relocate outside of Phoenix,AZ ?

I have been in Intel almost 21 years and was hired as a RCG . Almost certain of being offered a VSP . I have never looked for a job outside and havo no idea how marketable , the pay range, and opportunities for an IT professional in the Phoenix area . No plans to relocate as kids school and home is here . I just feel that that phase 2 of project closures, site efficiencies, co -location etc is going to be really ugly .

I am a g9 . In IT infrastructure domain, IT operations and experienced in managing software development teams . PMP certified . No idea abt the market outside and not sure if I will hv a job if I declined the VSP as it will get really ugly and very competitive trying to find a job inside post redeployment . Most folks in redeployment in the past prefer to hang around looking for a job internally .

I know IT people who have left on VSP or similar in the past here in AZ and they are all working. The Phoenix economy is more diverse than say Portland or Rio Rancho so you are lucky from that perspective. The jobs ex-Intel folks have that I know however are NOT paying what they made at INTCbut these guys were grade 9-11 so there's the fact that they made a high wage.

It depends on exactly what kind of IT work you are looking for.

Big employers in the area with IT need include Wells Fargo, Amex, ... gah... drawing a blank on the rest. Start with a search on some of the major job boards.
