Per Hammarlund joined apple in Jan '15. Apple has to start mass production of A9 SoC in June '15 for Sept iPhone launch. Do you think Hammarlund came in Jan '15 and in six months he put together SoC from concept to final product? Come to reality. Apple has lot of other smarter guys. A0 silicon has to be in lab at least 9 months-1year before final PRQ of product. I joined Apple in 2012. Apple hardware team works like startup. Earlier 2011-2013 Apple was hiring tier-1 employees (top of the cream from various companies). I had to go thru interview with multiple directors and Hardware team VP. Apple is now hiring tier-2 candidates as it has good base of tier-1 employees to deliver great products and mentor tier-2 employees.

@H4r5Q1a-had - I'm not sure about Apple's hiring across the board but the Apple core architecture team is staffed primarily with CPU architects that left Intel after the big core moved to IDC (they were "junk" from Intel's perspective). Ex. Per Hammarlund, Chris Weaver and many more. These folks built the A9, A9X stuff you see in Apple devices and they're already exceeding Intel's client CAGR.
I have to agree with everyone else, the temporary stock boost will go away and we'll see where Intel ends up when critical people move away.
I think BK hired the big guy to take care of all his failed projects and other sh-- including mobile that he doesn't want to deal with anymore. Think of it like a toxic containment unit which can be lopped off whole later if needed in order to keep the other profitable parts of Intel safe and intact. If Intel splits in the future I am willing to bet that Murthy will be the CEO of the chunk that BK and his cronies don't want to deal with.
Apple hire Intel smart guys not junk. Try giving interview in mixed signal team and you will know.
@H4r5Q1a-szc: Apple does hire Intel "junk". I have been cold called by apple before a couple of times. I didn't pursue because of personal reasons. I know few ex intel employees working for apple now.

Apple doesn't hire Intel junk.
The Chinese are designing their own chips too, Intel is finished. 90% of the employees today will be gone within the decade.
