I sincerely hope that such massive layoffs finally put an end to the STEM crisis myth propagated by the rich industrial lobbies with able help from politicians of all sides. We kept hearing that US needs STEM workers because there is a shortage and we need more and more H-1B.. Fact: there is an glut of local talent who are burdened with huge debts but the jobs are not available to them. The rich made sure there is a glut to keep pays low. We need a meaningful policy that make sure local people get these high paying jobs.. Anyway, good luck to all.

@mut where did you get the information that they come from rich families. The real reason why they pursue higher education is they spend a fraction of what we spend in US on education(if they spend anything at all). That is why we should make education free for all US kids
The reason intel can't find US workers is they only hire PHD's,Masters and diversity hires. Most of the H1B workers come from rich foreign families that could afford the education beyond a bachelor's degree. The US students are mostly middle class using student loans that cannot afford seven years worth of loans. This started before the diversity push which has now made it even harder for the typical US student
"The rich" weren't the ones peddling STEM. Hating people because they're wealthy is stupid, you should do less of it. Assuming you're not...nm
You said it right. So many young people pursued degrees in engineering because they thought it would guarantee them a good paying job for life.
