Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Bonding Leave?

I'm hoping that I'm not on the chopping block (I've never been rated below successful/level 3). But, if I am, will I also lose my bonding leave scheduled to begin the first week of May? Talk about terrible timings for layoffs, this is our first child, and my wife just left her position to become a stay at home mom.

so people who took bonding leave shouldn't quit but Intel can fire them citing SSL4 which was given to him because he took bonding leave? What about sabbatical? I have worked for eight years at Intel and have not had any children (so no bonding leave yet). So should I not quit after taking 8 weeks of bonding leave? Can a person who takes bonding leave within two years after joining the company leave one year after returning from bonding leave? What do you consider abuse?

I know two Intel employees that took bonding leave and then quit a month after they returned. Bonding leave is a disgrace to other people on the team and a freebie to the people who like to abuse benefits.

OP here, I can understand that some of you who may not be parents might find my concerns out of place given the gravity of what is happening with the corporation. But, as a new parent with a baby currently in the NICU, the bonding time is something we were counting on and an additional 8 weeks of pay should I be cut would be a huge buffer for us while I join the job hunt when adjusting to life as parents (and paying the sizable medical bills that I'm sure will hit our bank account soon). I think like many employees I'm considering all of the implications of possible impending unemployment.

@nte you might ping HR in parallel with your manager if things aren't moving quickly enough. If your leave starts in 5/2 and your site closes EOY then I doubt the bonding leave matters, you'll have plenty of time when you return to get things in order.

I am in a simlar position. I am at a site that is slated for shutdown at the end of the year. They are offering relos to my group. My bonding leave is scheduled to start 5/2 on. I am concerned what the dates will be and if I have to adhere to those dates while I am OOO. My manager is supportive and is getting answers but this is causing me anxiety.

From the leaks, it sounds like you're safe. If by some chance you got an ISP then you should ask HR about the bonding leave, since ISP folks are paid through May (if you've made travel plans, be sure to bring that up). I doubt you'd get it, but I also doubt you have to worry.

So your bonding leave should be fine assuming that you're not impacted by project or site restructuring. Note that if something occurs after you start your leave (which the project impacts should) then you may not find out until you come back. You might leave your cell # with your manager and tell him to call you if something happens.
