Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

Managers should be laid off

I hope first level managers are laid off . They don't give a damn f--- about their team. All they care about is if they are not booted out. Such first level managers are protective of senior engineers and show favoritism . Which is very bad for the company . The senior engineer are very protective about their domain knowledge . Shy to teach . Hence Intel will collapse eventually . Every man for himself

I've had some really bad managers at Intel. Oh could I tell you stories. But managers look after other managers so nothing changes. Don't be fooled, the manager feedback tool (or whatever it was last year) is a farce. I've heard of managers getting literally the worst rating the tool supports (everyone on the team gave a 1 out of 5) for multiple categories and absolutely nothing happened for it.

A big problem is that they take people who don't do well in the group and make them the manager of the group "to give them a new opportunity and to help the team be more productive". Thing is, now they're in charge of something they're not good at, and too many of them interpret their "promo" as validation of their skill so they impose their will onto others. There's a real issue with first line managers coming from this and few seem to realize it (fewer managers do because they're the problem). In all my time at Intel, my best managers were hired as managers, and my worst ones were promoted from within the team. No exceptions.

@H4FZT6S-bnh -> Very True! Even more... These mediocres are attending stupid courses made/directed by other managers. And after the each course, they think that they know the domain, and they have necessary expertize to make the calls (their calls are horrible).

What the stupid setup, which does nothing good, just pisses off hard working engineers!? :-((

I have worked for 3 tech giants prior to Intel. I've had only 1 good manager, 2 really bad managers, and 3 mediocre. Intel does not see the value in hiring good first level managers. Hence, the employees play politics because they can see incompetent managers who care nothing but making himself look good. They manage upward. Sad, sad place to work at Intel! Intel wastes so much money because of incompetent managers!

I was laid off last year during the 2015 ISP and the manager that walked me out is being laid off next week. I will try to help him land a job.

Every man for himself behavior is driven by the focal process. Until Intel changes it, every man for himself will continue and yes if your manager doesn't like you or see your value you're in trouble.

You should know that the rank groups that managers are evaluated in during focal process also require SL4/5 assignment so yes managers will receive ISP like ICs.
