Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

If I resign on Monday before Intel gets a chance of handing me ISP will I be forced to take ISP?

The thing is I have another job lined up which I am supposed to join July 1st. I was planning to leave intel June 15th but now with this ISP thing I am not sure what to do. I think I may be on the chopping block. I don't want ISP because the next company is going to initiate my background check and I don't want them to know I was laid off.

To OP, the time to resign was early last week. But even then, the paperwork would still go through and you'd be marked "ineligible for rehire" anyway. So better to take the ISP and at least get some money from it.

@ izl

FML is supposed to be protected by EEOC. You should be given time to review the release before signing it. Talk to a few lawyers before signing it.

Legally they need to give you some time to review it before signing the release.

I think Intel Corporate HR made a huge mistake by NOT having any exemption for people with SSL4/5 who took medical leave.

I have been through isp situation last year. Don't worry. Your new employer will check your length of employment and job title. Make sure to write the exact last date as may 30 I guess this time. You can also call generic hr number, they will explain what info they will provide if asked by potential employer. I did that. They won't disclose vsp or isp. Again managers are not allowed to give any recommendation letter. See the posts Below..they are right. I was told the same. Instead of ur managers name u can give Intel hr number as reference. Hope this helps.

OP stop worrying and rejoice. Layoff won't show up in your background check and that is not what they check for anyway. If you get VSP/ISP you should be laughing all the way to the bank. Good luck with the new position.

@izl: probably. It's sad but true. And I am SO SORRY for your loss.

I had a medical crisis related to the birth of my daughter and a personal injury this year. I ended up taking many weeks off... ended up with ssl4.

Our only hope is that they will filter for protected leaves but, based on last year's ISP, I highly doubt they will

@izl, if your outstanding rating was last 2 years then no you are not impacted. BTW, my condolences.

Managers will not give references and are not to be given as contacts. Managers can actually be performance managed for that. Intel's guideline is that the company will only verify employment through the OCAC, that is the only contact number you are allowed to give a potential employer...if they do contact a manager, the manager will transfer them to the OCAC as they are mandated to do so. This is to mitigate risk to Intel by people who have brought charges in the past for a bad reference given by a manager. It has been guideline for several years that no manager is authorized to ever give a reference for a current or former employee...

if I'm understanding the OP correctly, their new potential employer is about to initiate a background check in which case they will definitely be calling Intel to verify employment. Everyone impacted by ISP gets marked as ineligible for rehire which IS COMMUNICATED to potential employers as well as your employment dates. There are several threads on here where ppl who left voluntarily were scrutinized by potential employers because it has been well publicized in the media that these lay-offs are "poor performers" - therefore it was assumed they were one of those "poor performers" and were asked to provide documentation that they voluntarily left Intel.

Potential employers are allowed to ask two questions when they call to verify your employment (1) what are the dates of employment and (2) would you hire this employee back. If you are ISP, then Intel will say "No" to the 2nd question which is interpreted negatively by potential employers. I will find the other thread from a person who experienced this last year and repost it here...

Bottom line, if you are termed via ISP you can consider your entire employment history with Intel wiped out as far as future potential job opportunities are concerned outside of Intel.

The new company has asked for my current manager's name and contact for the background check. That is why I am concerned.

do you think background check state 'laid off'. i do not think so. even with ISP, they are paying you until end of may, right ? + 2 months of payment. So, technically, you will be with intel before they offcially acccept you

Since you already have a job lined up why wouldn't you take the ISP package? It's not like you will be looking for new job and for your next job they won't call Intel but rather call your new employers. Take the money and run.
