Thread regarding Intel Corp. layoffs

If you get an ERP (Enhanced Retirement Package) are you marked "do not rehire"?

Just curious since I will get one Monday and will look for another job. If they say do not rehire the new employer would look at this as a negative.

There have been updates to the rules about returning. I also heard one year to bridge service, but I was rehired in that situation and HR told me in 2015 service can be bridged if you return in 2 years time. I did successfully bridge years of service. Also, it is not true you can only be rehired once. There is no limit. Again HR confirmed in 2015. Anything can change of course.

@H3rsdIC-1bvh if you leave on your own you are able to reapply at a later time though there are time restrictions involved wrt to bridging your service. In 2006 during SET there were several people who were RDP'd but chose to take the separation package with a large buyout (they were not termed due to performance hence they were eligible for rehire) and some did reapply and were hired back as they had friends internally who kept them informed of opening reqs. They did have to go through the entire process again through jobs@intel, though anyone who has friends on the inside knows if you have corporate capital you are more likely to ease through the process. This did complicate things as prior employees were getting hired (officially considered external hires) while internal employees were getting snuffed. People who had an official start date before 365 days of prior term date were able to bridge their services (LOS for sabbatical eligibility, etc.). More than 365 days, everything starts over...basically a clock reset as though they were a new hire. This did ruffle some feathers because these people got a large severance and then returned, filling reqs that internal ees were trying to fill. To mitigate this from happening, Intel began inserting guidelines about who can return, when and how. You are ineligible for rehire if you are ISP. If you are VSP, or standard resignation, you can return only once. After leaving the company a 2nd time you are ineligible for rehire.

I'm not knowledgeable about the current action guidelines therefore I wouldn't be able to give guidance on that but if you know of anyone receiving the VSP, you might want to ask them if there is any verbiage in the package which precludes them from applying for a position at a future date.

Hope this helps to answer! Best of luck to you, @H3rsdIC-sbe

@yfz (or whoever else might know): if one leaves the company on his own, resigns, is there any difference in the rehire process or has to apply all over again as someone who was never an employee?

@H3rsdIC-yby you're very welcome, I left a few years ago...was once an HRBP - Life is really great outside of Intel though it did take at least 3 months to adjust (I was there almost 2 decades) I wish everyone the best in their endeavors, even those who aren't impacted by the action and remain with the company are still deeply impacted emotionally, best of luck to you!

@H3rsdIC-ggs yes, those seem to meet the criteria though it's doubtful you'll receive a formal offer on Monday. Chances are that you will see people getting VSP and/or ERP by week's end and through the following week...you will be given a time frame in order to make a decision...HR typically likes to inform people of decisions such as these on Fridays so as to keep you functioning in your full capacity (productive) and then allow you the weekend to internalize and decompress. The ISPs will likely have meetings all throughout the week because they are walked out immediately after their exit meeting and asked to leave the campus immediately, there is no consideration given to their productivity though they fail to realize how horribly this impacts the team when they see their colleague in the morning and realize mid-day that their colleague is gone.

The VSP and ERP folks do impact the company from a productivity perspective because it's clearly a very sensitive and delicate issue for many which in turn, impacts their productivity. The time in which we are under the most duress is the time between presented with a decision we need to make, and the time we make it. Having said that, my best advice is to expect the worst and hope for the best but have your decision made as to what you will do when your time comes. Those who remain in denial of ever being impacted and hang everything on hope are the ones who suffer the most.

No, you are not. You only get marked as ineligible for rehire if: (A) you separate involuntarily due to performance (ISP) or (B) you have already left the company and come back twice, after you leave your second time you are not eligible to be hired back at Intel for a 3rd time.

The VSP and ERP programs are voluntary, meaning that you can the offer and remain employed. Intel considers the number of employees who take these packages as ATTRITION and NOT LAYOFFS. They also consider jobs where the employee is offered to relocate to a different site yet chooses not to as ATTRITION, not a layoff. This is because the people who accept these offers or decline to relocate are choosing to leave Intel and not being forced to leave. With that being said, people should understand that the 12K number which Intel has set at target may not include all who will be offered/accepting VSP/ERP as Intel can only identify the population eligible, they can not forecast who will accept the offers.
