Oregon Live syays that the average pay of Intel employee in Oregon is 170,000!! Holy cow! If that is the case, then I would think pressure of layoffs or cuts will be there and should be expected, isnt it?

$170k is a high G7 or low G8 T-comp. Given that there are a large number of PhDs in Oregon, maybe it's not that far off?
Will hc actually go down after this action?Mean not likely to rise if veterans are replaced with rcg and h1b.

that average will most likely go up after this action, wouldn't those numbers be interesting? pre and post on the average of a highly skewed distribution that's been clipped at the low end?

If you average my 100k with someone 500k, the number is 300K, lol. 170k might only means we have too many executive members in Oregon
Have a little respect for the English language: average is not helpful. Be explicit about if you are talking about MEDIAN or MEAN. With sr. mgmt salary out of control $170k could easily be the mean but would be difficult to be the median... (and as the 1st reply stated, the other question is Tcomp vs salary).
It's not 170k. Look at glassdoor.com or the Intel parking lot.
170k is definitly not the average salary there. Burdened cost, maybe.... but not ave salary.
PTD is a very expensive operation. Lots and lots of really high grade old timers there too.
I'm a manager and I can say that number is no where near correct even if you add up all the stocks, bonus, retirement contribution, and health care cost Intel pays. I think that number may be referring to the cost of employing each employee including building cost, utility, IT support, HR support, etc.
